There is nothing surprising about radio 2 and I'm not convinced many of the presenters are real music fans. My preference is 6 music. At work they often have radio 1 on - which I find way easier to tolerate than radio 2 (I shamed them out of that)

You've probably fallen out of the demographic it's aimed at. It was traditionally aimed at over 35's, but now it seems to be aimed at 20's-30's... not quite as inane and rubbish as BBC1, but not far off.
Radio 4/4xtra for talk - like others have said Radio 6 for music
Aiming something at 20 to 30 year olds is not a great plan if your average listener is in their mid 50s.

I have been listening to Gold recently in the car, lots of 60s and 70s classic stuff as well as some forgotten gems, also some 80s stuff.
They also have an added bonus of lots of double plays from the same artist and 10 in a row which cuts down on the inane chatter that is now present on Radio 2

I used to enjoy (for classic hi-its) 'Southern Sound'. A fair bit of 'The Eagles' on there though as I remember, which I didn't mind.

FIP Internet radio stations. Great soul and jazz stations. The jazz station plays really smart stuff.

Based on the feedback on here I am not sure why people listen to the radio at all - I gave up years ago. Just listen to your own playlists then all will be well in the world.

Then you don’t hear anything new. I find occasional gems on R6 that sets me off in a new direction.
I listen to the radio not just for the music but also for the conversations between the music.
I think I rarely listen to one station loyally.

There are two Radio 2s. The weekday one - where you know what you’re getting, other than a bit of random holiday cover (Vanessa Feltz for example).
But the weekend version is resolutely odd and best avoided.

In my 60's myself I have been the target audience for Radio 2 for the past 10/15 years as all the super hip wonderful Radio 1 DJ's moved over to 2.
But the latest switch of DJ's has bought in the Radio 1 DJ's of the 90's and I'm out.
At home it's Caroline or Caroline Flashback (Alexa, play radio caroline flashback).
In the car it's Absolute 80's or Kisstory (old Kiss FM)
Maybe I'm just getting too old for modern pop music.

I fear when the listening audience figures are next released that won't be the case.
R2 is dire. Especially since they axed all the specialist programs, i.e. The interesting music!

I tend to listen to R5 a lot when I am in my car and I have gradually been getting wound up by Nihal Arthanayake on the afternoon show. He's like an escapee from Radio 1.
Then this week, he called someone he was interviewing 'dude' and I was incandescent.
Am I justified in thinking he is a complete
or have I simply moved 'outside of their demographic' without realising it ?
