Geeky question here.

Can you get radio Sussex outside of Sussex (in London) live?

I want to get Brighton commentary live without delay.

Thanks in advance
You can listen to it on line - but not to match day commentaries. You can, though, listen to the the Radio Sussex commentary through the Albion website (go to MyAlbion Play - matchday commentary).

It’s a good answer and a good service via the radio or online but @dwayne is after some tech magic to fix his particular problem of the dodgy streams he uses to watch Albion games having foreign commentary and/or a time lag and the fact that he lives outside Sussex.

Oh right. I just listen, don't use dodgy streams.

I used to be able to pick in up in Clapham very weakly, then ran it through some computer software to make it listenable.

Haven't tried for years, but you'd need a very good receiver and aerial. They simply don't make them like anymore unless it's specialist.

The likelihood these days is that a local London station is using a similar frequency and would just drown it out.

So I'd say yes in the past but not today.

If I get desperate and if you have an account. I sometimes revert to bet365. They normally have commentary for the big games. Although it’s not up to Johnny and Warren. And I am in no way encouraging you to bet. Like I say only in desperation….

just seen the dodgy stream bit. Not sure how it ties in with those. But bet365 is normally ahead of the live on pitch action🤣. So may be ahead of the dodgy stream.

Was working fine when I listened to it last night from my home in London

The Albion player thingie wasn't working for me for some reason so I was googling like mad for options and somehow found radio Sussex broadcasting the commentary. Don't think you can find it direct through the Sounds UI but that link I provided worked for me.

As for the streaming delay not syncing with the video feed - maybe it would be easier to try and add a little delay to the stream instead? I know Twitch and YouTube have this kind of option so maybe Dodgy Dutch does too?
Same here in Birmingham. Listened to radio Sussex without any problem via BBC sounds app. The club site didn't work last night for me

Thanks for the help

I need to buy a powerful radio it would seem to potentially get live commentary.

Generally I don't have any trouble watching games. I have about 5 legal accounts at streaming sites around the world and Skysports, BT and amazon, paying for the full service.

But the holy grail for me is to find a source where there is little or no delay (sub 10 seconds) with English commentary. And I've yet to find it so far. The closest I have come was a service a few years ago called smoothstreams that transmitted live Canadian TV channels. But eventually Canada went to dazn streaming and took football off their TV channels, so that option went away.

Didn't it used to be on MW as well which seemed to make it easier to pick up in London. FM not so good for longer distances, and lots of competing services as you say.

With a really good aerial, and the right atmospherics, and without anything to interfere with the signal, maybe.

I used to listen to the occasional game on Radio Sussex from my top floor flat at the brow of a hill in Blackheath. If you're in a valley in NW London I imagine you'd have no chance.
That's pretty much your spot on correct answer right there ^.

If you want a bit of Geek with that, here goes...

It's not so much the radio as the aerial.

As a youngster living in Hastings I used to listen to Reggae shows on BBC Radio London and Capital Radio. Both FM stations. I could never pick up any of the handful of Pirate stations broadcasting from biscuit tins in blocks of flats. I had a hifi seperates set up at home with an entry level Nad tuner as part of my set up. I was allowed to pay for someone to install a huge 5 element FM aerial up on our (parent's house) chimney.

On a good night I got a lovely signal and used to tape all the shows. On a bad night I couldn't get anything at all. Totally weather dependent. And if we'd lived in Hastings Old Town I wouldn't have had any chance of a signal at all.

Both stations had decent local signals. In my experience, especially from travelling home from Withdean games, Radio Sussex on FM is hit and miss signal wise. Knock yourself out with shite commercial stations like Heart and More. Strong signal wherever you go. But with Radio Sussex, depending on where you are, their signal really isn't that great.

You'd need a decent Tuner (Radio) and even better FM aerial and a cracking high point South London location to have any chance of getting a decent FM signal for Radio Sussex I'm afraid.
