Interesting theory to be beaten to death to within an inch of your life - would you do that to your kids if they left your grand children unattended ?

BTW - wouldn't like to meet your mum

She's not someone you'd want to cross, but that might have been a slight exaggeration!

Hopefully I will have raised my children well enough for them to know you don't leave your children alone. Should my children do anything like that I'd have no hesitation in making that phone call to the relevant agency and getting the support in place so that the children were adequately cared for. And I'd hope someone would do the same for me should I ever flip my lid and leave my children alone.

If we couldn't get a family member or close friend to babysit then we didn't go out. Common sense surely?

Exactly, or in this case one parent goes out and one stays with the kids taking it in turns if the rest of the party are going out. Would be interesting to know if the parents had done this previous nights they were on holiday. If they had its more likely someone has watched them on previous nights and just waited for their moment.

The creche wasn't open at night, only during the day.

The one at Bognor's open Sat night 8-10 but that's not really the point. At Butlins every single building is a shrine to the family. They let us take Owen in to the Irish pub on the Friday night in his pram after we'd had dinner while my 5 year old niece sang karaoke. Leaving kids on their own is generally a bad idea anywhere but I just can't see the point when the place your staying at is 100% baby friendly.

Things were different in the 1970s as Beach Hut said. Having the chalet patrol was considered normal.
Of course at home I didn't go out very much at all as my family were down south and my then inlaws, were stingy beggars who didn't help out at all.

I am glad someone else is picking up the point about different time eras and what people did = thought I was going mad

Just because they did it doesn't make it right. People in the 70's drunk Blue Nun and Red Barrel, listned to disco, fought each other with scarves on their wrists and thought 'Love Thy Neighbour' was funny.

They also put babies to sleep on their front, now proven as a major cause of SIDS.

I never said it was right the point I was making was different values and ethics - bit like asbestos

That's what we do. If one of the grandparents can look after our boy then we dont go out, we dont even let our 17 year old babysit him in the evening.

In answer to Sir Danny Cullip, the police when researching the matter in order to produce reconstructions of their movements, have confirmed that the children had been left alone on 'numerous' occasions earlier in the holiday.

Why not, Junior babysits for Mini (and demands an outrageous price which is flatly refused).

Very sad, probably confirms suspicions the family have been watched and the crime planned based on previous nights observations. :nono:

It's pretty sad that whatever values or ethics anyone held, it was 'normal' to possibly leave your baby screaming for up to 35 minutes before his/her need could be met.

I stay at home with our kids and most days there isn't much I wouldn't give to have half an hour alone to just shower in peace, never mind go for a drink and food. But if there is no one to watch the children wemake allowances and go with out or I bring them with me.

(How do you do the multi-quote thing on here?)

How old are they?

My children were sound asleep before I left them on that one holiday. Neither of them suffered nightmares or screaming fits.

I posted what happened at those sort of camps was considered normal. That's why I cannot condemn the parents.
Casting the first stone....

We dont trust either of them! Expecting her to be responsible for her annoying kid brother isnt something we feel comfortable with, and also when the temptation is there to have a quick fag in the house or sneak the boyfriend in then it's just not worth the worry. There is no point going out and trying to enjoy yourself knowing world war III is probably happening!

I understand about casting the first stone, heck, like any parent I make mistakes with our children. I understand it was normal and what everyone did. I just cannot understand leaving a baby/child alone and going elsewhere to socialise. In your instance at Pontins or in Madeleine's parents case.

I just hope the media coverage Madeleine's case has been given makes parents think twice in future about whether they really need that beer at the bar.

Is her boyfriend not allowed in your house then?

Yorkie. Your unwillingness to judge is a virtue, and I salute you for it, but you are wrong.

The parents were wrong. You know it, I know, and the parents themselves, god save them, know it better than anyone.
