Radio on iPhone?

After Brettles' revelation about live TV on the iPhone, does anyone know if it's possible to get radio, particularlt BBC Sussex, for the long and joyless trudge back from the Withdean? I know you can get radio streaming programmes but I don't really get how they work. I assume you won't be able to get match commentary as a result of the stupid Seagulls World business.

As far as I am aware, you can only get BBC Sussex via the Iphone/Itouch from one of those dongle things that attach to the Iphone/Itouch and turn it into a radio receiver.

Bought one last season, it did a job but I got bored of it!

Where did you get that from?

You can get IPhone headphones (with a little FM radio attached to the cable) very easily.

It doesn't turn the phone into a receiver, but I presume it does the job.

Apparently the new IPhone has a dormant FM receiver built in but is waiting for an "app" to enable it.#

Still behind Nokia, I use my FM radio on my phone all the time.

yes but thats only if you are in the area. these boys need to know if you can get it whitewater rafting in new zealand, sitting in a tent with bedoins in the Empty Quarter, in a south african diamond mine, or doing a big smelly poo while reading the paper and playing your DS.

Probably naughty and not allowed, but I've got a rather elaborate setup that works me fine

I have a computer at home in Brighton thats hooked up to my DAB radio, my computer takes that radio and streams it via SHOUTcast whereupon I can listen on my iPhone when out and about over the internet.

I'll admit there is a delay (about 1 minute or so) so for commentary when you're actually AT the game it's a bit useless, but it means I can listen to the phone in and build up.

Alas my internet connection is not good enough for everybody to hook into it, so don't ask me for it's address sorry!

I understand and I expect Apple felt that the urban vibrancy of Hoxton would distract potential Radio Four listeners.

Who needs John Simpson when you can "go wifi" in a coffee shop, sipping a skinny latte and watching (sorry interacting) with your cousin Sarah's latest video installation on the wall.

Next time they are brain storming in the chill out zone of Apple Headquarters, I expect a bright spark will enter the room on a Space Hopper and say "Hey Guys, an FM radio will be kinda cool.."

THis won't help with match commentaries when you are there, but more generally ...

There is an App (either free or very cheap) called RadioBOX that streams hundreds of radio stations from around the globe. It includes R5live and sports extra among plenty of others. Definitely worth having on the iphone.

The App "Wunder Radio" does the job. Costs £3.99 but still falls foul of the Seagull's World problem. Excellent quality and easy to use. Available via iTunes in the usual way. Hope this helps.

Wahey! Look at me! I hate people with iPhones! I pigeon-hole them into all being trendy Hoxton types, despite the phones massive user demographic proving this to be completely off the mark!

It's SO painfully boring now, give it up. iPhones are f**king brilliant, deal with it.

You let yourself down there constructing a paragraph with the phrase "user demographic" and accentuating the word "so".

I'd dust off the skateboard...

Brilliant. You don't look bitter at all, that's the best thing. Just get one. You will not regret it.

Don't worry, everyone else will just carry on enjoying their iPhones and ignoring the bitter ones.
