He said he was the greatest and proved it both in and out of the ring. When in Kentucky a couple of years ago nipped into the Ali Centre for what was expected to be an hour but finished up spending all day in there reading and listening about his life, so interesting. He can be classed as a true legend?

I'm guessing so. I really don't like Boxing but I can see he meant a lot to many.

Goodnight Champ. RIP.

No one has ever come close for me as him in my eyes. He was my sporting hero, but also so much more with his political stances and sacrifice.

The reason I can't feel sad about Ali's death is that he was a man that squeezed absolutely everything out of life in so many arenas. He lived life to the fullest and changed the world in many ways. He lived a full life. One of the AMAZING ones.

RIP Ali, you did good.

Great boxing champion. Tremendous charisma. A spokesman for racial equality.

Its a pity he didn't retire earlier, maybe after the third Frazier fight. No doubt his quality of life after he retired was effected by too many punches to the head, and it robbed the world of the things he could have achieved in retirement.

He never blamed boxing for his condition in later life, and battled his illness with the same bravery he showed in the ring.

I hope he will meet Joe Frazier again now, and apologise for some of the things he called him in the build up to their fights

"I’ve wrestled with alligators, I’ve tussled with a whale. I done handcuffed lightning And throw thunder in jail. You know I’m bad. Just last week, I murdered a rock, Injured a stone, Hospitalised a brick. I’m so mean, I make medicine sick. Last night I cut the lights out, was in my bed before the room was dark. I'm bad." - Muhammad Ali

As George Foreman said, to label Muhammad Ali as a great boxer is an injustice to the man he was, a great human being. If you're ever in Kentucky go to the Ali Center and read about his life after boxing. You will discover one of the most charitable, kind, peaceful and wonderful human beings to have ever walked this planet. RIP Great Man.

and the wonderful Harry Carpenter.

I saw this earlier on Twitter. The respect was mutual. This was from the Radio Times in 1973. Also writing in was a 15 year old Peter Capaldi giving his opinion on Doctor Who.

Living In a Box
There cannot be many greater sporting icons on this planet, the only other comparable I can think of is possibly Jessie Owens.

RIP - what a man

He had such a sharp wit, so tragic that it was blunted by Parkinson's for so many years. RIP

A small, but significant part of his greatness was his willingness to expose his Parkinson's to public view. I'm sure that this acted as an encouragement to other people who live with that condition.
