Fabulous player with that unique half engaged Wah tone. Recently came across an old C90 cassette tape with Reading 1982 on it. The version of Lost Horizons is just incredible. He really should have had an even bigger career but has had well publicised issues with drink and currently doesn't half look skinny.

Loved his work with UFO, but I'm sure that didn't exactly help, health-wise. :D

On that note, I'm just off to see Walter Trout, at the Concorde 2. :)

Great drummer. Remember seeing him at Plumpton Racecourse about 1971 playing with AirForce. They were the final act and when they played on beyond whenever they were meant to the organisers pulled the plug on the band. But Ginger just kept on drumming for one of the longest solos I ever saw him play. What a character!

Saw him recently in the Drum Legends gig at the Dome, alongside Pete Yorke and Herman Rarebell. He wasn't looking too good, then.

As an aside, anyone going to see Music of Cream on Thursday? Has his son, Kofi Baker on drums, alongside Malcolm Bruce (Jack's son) and Will Johns (Clapton's nephew).

They're pretty damn good.

Literally no comparison, Baker's roots and interest were Jazz, Bonham was Rock. I saw them both live. As my musical taste was Rock rather than Jazz I preferred the Hammer of the Gods...

Saw Ginger Baker in Blind Faith at Hyde Park 1969, Ginger Baker's Airforce at Plumpton Rock Festival 1970 and Big Apple Brighton 1970.
He was great but the drum solos were a bit of a fad with a short shelf life.
R.I.P. It is rather surprising that he lived so long considering his lifestyle but I am glad that he continued to entertain and enjoy life until he was 80!

yes I also was at that one - if I remember right I had to wear a tie as well!!!! Their Albert Hall reunion in 2005 was also amazing they had lost nothing over time. RIP
