There is a pretty big devil in the detail. I am pretty sure that the 1991 Playoff final had the highest attendance of any league match in all 4 divisions that season.

You are indeed correct. And it was by over 10,000. The next highest play-off or league crowd was for Man Utd v Villa, a mere 47485.

Is CORRECT.

One place below them in 1972 in Division III is the best we could muster.

Even Halifax Town finished above Aston Villa during the 1970s...

One place below Spurs in 1978 was the closest we could get to them. The cheating stitch-up bastards...

EXCELLENT question though TLO, I like that one. I find myself quite proud that it is such a short and exclusive list of clubs that we've not finished above.
Palaces must sadly be even shorter though, being as they somehow hacked their way up to 3rd in the 90's.

Yep - great question. Not one that you could just go and google for the answer.

OK. Try this one. Which was the last team to get a 30000+ crowd in the lowest division (i.e. what is now League 2)?

I bet that is Palace as well

PS: I knew it was Darlington. I did not go, a mistake. It was pouring with rain. It was years and years before Albion had their next big match. I was only nine at the time though. And Bobby Smith I never played for the Albion again. I did not know that at the time!

At the Goldstone Ground in our glory years of 1976-77 to 1982-83 (except friendlies):
1. Which two teams did we play there every season apart from two?
2. Which player scored there in every season?
