I gave up about june 1990 and was smoking some days 60 Marlbro and just stopped and it damn near killed me, the guy over the road from me used to work the garage on the Lewes road, Coombe road junction(now gone and a block of very ugly flats) at night and but for him (RIP) refusing to sell me some fags at 2am one very long night I would have succumbed to the evil weed.

good luck mate hope you do OK

I started taking Champix on June 21st and my give up day was Monday 2 July, I can confirm I have not had a fag since Sunday night when I purposely finished the pack (so non lying around). If I am honest I do not feel sick when taking the tablet and I did notice last week that the fags started tasting horrible and I was only smoking half. The only slight issue I have is getting out of the routine i.e whenever I leave work I would spark up and now feels something missing when i leave work. Hopefully this will subside very soon.

Day 4 nearly done....

It is definitely getting easier as each day passes. I think I've had about 6 major cravings today and they passed very quickly. I honestly believe that I have conquered this addiction already.

I have genuinely not used anything other than willpower and a few packets of mints to get this far. If I can do it, anyone can. You just have to store up a lot of willpower and determination. If you look at it from a point of view that you dictate what your body needs and that tobacco is not controlling you, it helps, well it has for me anyway. If you get a serious craving for a smoke, get busy doing something and it will soon pass!

Good luck everyone and lets keep supporting eachother and anyone that wants to be a part of the challenge.

The Misses has stopped a week today. Well proud.

I was talking to a nutritionist this morning. He advises all those giving up to take extra zinc. Apparently ex smokers have a massive deficiency in it. You can buy it highly concentrated in tablet form.
The one the misses has is called Viridian.

Well done to everyone who is quitting.

Starting on my first E-Cig tonight. It certainly seems to work in terms of needing a real cigarette. First attempt ever at giving up :( or should that be :)

I simply didn't see the point of using gimmicks to quit tbh... I think quitting cold turkey is the only real way to do it IMO... A build up of willpower is the key.. Good luck all the same. 1 day at a time, it really does get easier each day.

Thanks and you make a point, however I am quite weak willed so my train of thought was to do first step by at least having the habit of (kinda) smoking but without the actual smoke.

My next step is to do the patch but not for while yet

You're welcome mate... We need to support each other if we can.

I'm also usually quite weak willed but I thought about quitting for sometime. I cut down to about 6 per day over a period and then just set a date. I built myself up to deciding that I control what I need in my life and tobacco isn't included! I have failed before (Quit for 10 months) a few years ago... I will not fail this time I can assure you!

That's a good attitude!! I hope you do it, and it seems you are determined for sure!!! I guess everyone has their own way to tackle it. I just still wanna kind of go through the smoking routine but not the tobacco anymore.

The reason why I chose now was that I always said that as soon as I get to stage where I wake up needing a fag I will try and give up. That time is now

The wife has gone 11 days now. Odd thing, less arguments than normal! She seems far more relaxed than she did when she smoked.
Which is strange considering she used to smoke to relax.

Today was her first pay day since quitting and she still had money left from last week. This is the first time this has happened in the 22 years I have known her.

Added bonus, my lungs feel better. Did not even know they felt bad.

Did not realise how much somebody else giving up something could make me feel so good. Not just the lungs. It feels like a whole new lease of life. If I am truthful her smoking use to scare me.
