Quick question on summer tournaments, for those involved in running kids football clubs...

They asked local kids to do it. My parents thought it would do me good so they sent me. Too hard a concept for today's Me Me Me generation to grasp?

Ok, that makes sense. Fair play then for lending a hand.

But today's generation certainly isn't all Me, Me, Me. There are plenty of kids doing good stuff today.

I know what kids are like. They eat Haribo, play on their X-Factor boxes and jump off low walls. I've seen them.

Usually we get the coaches of the other teams to referee matches that their club isn't involved in...they aren't paid!

this
and some of them were a pleasure and others ..........................

Hi people. I know there's a good few on here who are involved in junior clubs. If any of you are involved in putting on summer tournaments, can you tell me please, how much do you pay your REFEREES?

I ask because my 14 year old is a newly qualified ref, and he did his first appointment today - a monster 6- a-side tournament. He was there at 8.30 am, reffed 34 matches, and did not finish until 7.30pm. In the afternoon session he did 18 x 8 minute games, without a single break, in 31 degrees.

His reward for his efforts was £25, which did not seem to me to be very fair. Nor was there any mention of travel expenses, toward my 40 mile round trip to get him there. I should have voiced my thoughts to them at the time, but did not wish to embarrass him on his first gig.

Is this right and normal in your experience.

Many thanks

I refed for a couple of years between 15-17 when I needed some money, tournements were always crap for money, long days and little reward, I think I got about £40 for a tournement over at Lewes Bridge view.

However on match by match basis I would usually do a double header and get £20-25 a game, generally ending up reffing Beach Huts team at the time. Nice easy was to make a bit of money on a Sunday morning.

Not being into a religion that condones the oppression and murder of it's own people is not anti-Islamic. Thinking that children shouldn't expect payment for every helpful thing they do is not pro-child labour. If you think that's trolling then so b

The pro-child labour comment was a bit of fun but I can't beleive you are denying that you are Islamophobic, your statement in the quote is in itself Islamophbic. You have some very funny ideas about Islam that seem to be based on an extremely biased view of scripture or just blatant misinformation.

I base my views of Islam on the thousands of people they murder and torture every year. I have a problem with the incitement to murder westerners. But that's a whole other thread.

If Islamic jihadist fundamentalists are representitive of their entire religion, does that mean that all catholics abuse children or GODHATESFAGS because those nutters from the Westboro Community Church say so.

Fundamentalism in all its guises is the enemy, not islamic culture. Your painting of Islam with this broad brush stroke betrays your Islamophobia, I don't even see why you are bothering debating it, I mean plenty agree with you.

Having started reffing when I was his age , I would expect £20-25 for a youth game. As he is 14 he will probably be doing teams younger than himself so that's fair for a normal season game.
However as it was a tournament I would have expected more, I did a competition this weekend myself and got paid £35, so in my opinion £25 is too little.

Who pi**ed on Nibble's chips this morning ? Just logged on to see him moaning and whining on every thread about things he knows nothing about.

Come on petal, you're amongst friends, what happened at the weekend ?

*edit* Just seen he started the Internet porn censorship thread, so maybe he isn't clueless on every thread.

Indeed. He's given up four days of his half term holiday to do the course, which cost £85. And many more hours watching the videos and learning for the exam. Then spent another £50 on kit. It all shows a level of commitment, that Nibble isn't quite grasping, tbh.

He should be able to claim that money for the course back, When I passed at 14, ( six years ago) my course money was refunded to me after completing six competitive games. Also as a word of advice, possible email all local youth football secretaries in your area to see if there are any pre-season games to give him experience.

Thanks.

The £85 comes back (to ME!) when he's done six 11-a-side matches.

I'll speak to his old club and his little brother's current side to see about reffing a couple of pre-season games before his first real appiotments. Cheers

£25 is the standard MATCH fee and I usually get tournaments at around that mark + food or even £30/35.

Only thing is I'd make sure the friendlies are affiliated by the county FA. Else if anything goes wrong, the referee isn't 'covered.'

Hes young so at youth should be OK, but I steer clear of 'friendlies' as at open age, they tend to be anything but.

Good luck, starting at a good age and making good progress, can be very beneficial, as County FA's are focussing on progressing youth refs through the levels quickly, so often see 18 year olds flying up the ranks.
