As a European summer city break you'll have the best of both worlds with Lisbon or Budapest.

Lisbon itself is undulating great to explore history has excellent train / tram transport along its coastline to Cascais, a lovely town for a hot daytrip and sandy beach cove. Great street food.

Budapest, as well as amazing views and architecture both sides of river, has its centrally located Margaret (Marit) Island on the Danube with luscious parks and the amazing and inexpensive Art Deco Platinus Baths (uncrowded in the week with about 15 indoor & outdoor baths and pools saunas etc.) Inexpensive "Boris bike" type hire a good and safe option to get around as flat.

2 of the most inexpensive cities in Europe and only 2 or 3 hour flights.

Madrid. It has been transformed in the last couple of years, probably one of the cleanest cities you can visit in Europe. Warm 27 - 28, very reasonable prices for a nice hotel, caña and tapas.

OK, great NSC'ers, Wife has been looking after her Mother whilst her Father's been in hospital, she's back this weekend and we're looking for four / five day break in Europe. Prefer to see things rather than just lie in the Sun, but would prefer warm, any ideas please? Mon - Thu ish, reasonable budget.
What I would do is go onto EasyJet’s website and check any cheap last minute deals. Eg Pisa for the Cinque Terre or Tuscany ( all easily doable by train), Bordeaux maybe, Brindisi or Bari for South East Italy, Malaga for sun and great bars/restaurants?

Seville or Córdoba are super options. Just did a long weekend in Córdoba, Seville same time last year. Wonderful food, history and the Moorish palaces and cathedrals. Not too hot unlike the height of summer
I loved it in Seville (been twice) and also went to Cordoba. As you say avoid summer July/August) but it can be very hot (40c+) at other times.
