In between Liverpool and Manchester. Not a football town.

I lived there for three years (incidently when the IRA bombed it (*) and had a quick peek on my way to Wolves over Christmas. Lo and beyold the Rugby club have got a nice new stadium in the centre of town.

Famous people from Warrington er.. Chris Evans.

(*) Many people forget the failed bomb attempt the week before.

They stuck a device on the gas works that failed to go off.

I lived a few streets away.

If that had exploded it would have potentially been the biggest peace time explosion in the UK. When the terrorists escaped they shot dead a policeman on the way - history seems to have forgotten that.

They cynically placed two bombs in Warrington town centre (incidently full of Irish families and students who were my friends) and timed one to go off so people would rush towards the position of the second as it exploded.

A housemate of mine was in the town at the time and she came back looking like a ghost then just burst into tears.

Did anyone watch it last night - i'm still wound up by Soames' comments about just about everything last night

I thought the Independant journalist made a lot of sense, and made Soames look like a bit of an idiot on a couple of points which made me chuckle

Warrington. Land of my family (mother anyway). Grandfather chairman (and chief drinker) at the Irish Club. Working in the Wire Mills (foundries) from which the Rugby League club used to take their nickname.

I saw it last night, I thought Soames made a bit of sense in some of the things he said, especailly about the Olympics. The Independant guy seemed to be there for the applause.

That guy with the moustache was well cool though.

What did annoy me was how long they went on for about the Livingstone thing and the crap argument that followed about whether his comments would damage the Olympic bid, I mean FFS. Thankfully some Asian geezer in the crowd piped up and just said that Blair shouldn't have made such a big deal out of this because if he hadn't said that Ken should apologise we wouldn't be talking about it anymore.

I get fed up watching QT at the moment. It's obvious that we're close to an election and all the panelists do is knock each other without any real attempt to answer the question. The only one attempting to answer was Mrs McCartney and she didn't know much anyway.

They must have knocked a few houses down to buld there.

Right in the centre of town it is too.

The new stadium / tescos was built on some derelict land so no houses were knocked down. This photo shows what the land was like when they started to build.

Its just a shame that Brighton does not have this sort and size of land in the city centre waiting for development. Its just a fact that the North West has tons of this space now that much of the industry has gone.
