Of course, they conveniently forget that we didn't win either war on our own, or because we were British.

My advice to you sonny is watch The Dambusters, Dad's Army and 'Allo, 'Allo and learn yourself some history.

Comments like that, are why people in the North think that people in the South, and London in particular have no grasp in what is going on in their towns and cities.

Quite - I made the same point on the crap Prime Minister thread, it amazes me that people (especially those claiming to be left leaning) have so little understanding or empathy on the plight of post industrial towns and cities in the north.

Derby is a bad example though, people MUST be really thick living there, what with their big salaries and low cost of living??!? Not as smart as those living in Brighton and having naff all disposable income eh? Apologies for rant to the less ignorant of B&H.....

Because that man is BRITISH, he won two World Wars and one World Cup and he doesn't trust Johnny Foreigner.

Of course, I have seen the Facebook memes. Usually posted by people who have been nowhere near the forces.

I just don't get it. Jezza keeps harping on about wanting a General Election, and in the same week....

Refuses to discuss Brexit with TM. (yeah he will if she discounts hard brexit, knowing full well it would be political suicide for her to agree to).

Allows DA , on her own, go on QT.

I would vote labour like a shot tomorrow. This is a dreadful Tory Govt but those two!!

Me too, mate. The man completely lacks introspection if he can't see that he's more unfit as a proto-PM than I am as potential husband material for Dua Lipa.

And where did I mention northerners.
I just compared last week's programme in London to this week's in Derby, I don't control the schedule and in my opinion there was a huge difference in the audience, I thought the London audience was far more informed and gave a much better reasoned debate from both sides of brexit.
If the programme had come from Lands End or John o Groats and the audience was just as ignorant I would have said so.
If the programme last night was from Plymouth I would have almost certainly said the same if they were like some of the customers I have talked to this week.
Being from the north has nothing to do with it.

I happened to be in a pub in a small village near Barnsley on Wednesday evening when the no confidence vote happened. They put it on the TV and amid the pro Brexit and "May is useless" comments the biggest reaction was when Corbyn came on. To a person, they all hated him. Shouting at the TV "**** off you useless wanker!" and so on.

If he's hated in a former pit village in Yorkshire then how the hell could he ever hope to win an election? The village will still be predominantly Labour, they'll still win the seat there. But they need to win swing seats and with him in charge they have NO chance.

Really? To get back in power, they need the support of floating voters like me. And I could never vote for a party that left wing. I admire those who have the ideals of a socialist utopia but can't see it ever working. And there weren't enough of you to get them in despite a shambolic government. There are large swathes of people like me in the middle ground with no-one to vote for. Labour coming back from the left would be a good start.

A good summary of the reality. For every angry 18 year old hating all of; capitalism, Israel, Tories, the USA, the successful, there are many fold more not prepared to risk everything for a hard left economic experiment.

During the Blair years I wanted a more left-leaning Labour party and now I want a less left-leaning one. There's no pleasing people like me.

Mind you, I blame those who allowed the leadership ballot to go ahead with three right/centre candidates up against one on the left, Corbyn. Simple arithmetic dictated that he couldn't lose. If Liz Kendal and either Andy Burnham or Yvette Cooper had withdrawn to leave one sole candidate of the centre, we might not be in this mess now.

Luckily my electoral choice is made for me these days by living in the Green Republic of Brighton Pavilion and having an excellent constituency MP to vote for, and I help out with Peter Kyle's campaigns in Hove. He's better than anyone on the Labour front bench with the possible exception of Angela Raynor, and even she is beginning to parrot the party line like some ginger automaton. But every time Diane Abbott is trotted out on Question Time, something dies inside me. Can't they see how utterly useless she is? And any criticism of her is inevitably denounced as racism and/or sexism.

Cameron and May were also useless but they were/are prime minister, in charge making decisions, Cameron ran away and May was too scared to hold s TV debate, I don't think I have seen either of them go through the hatred and ridicule of last night.
Abbott is opposition, I don't think Labour will get elected with Corbyn and Abbott, she does not really matter too much at the moment until a general election is called.
At least she faces up on TV to give her and Labours opinion.
People should at this moment in time be far more concerned about this government and not just brexit, rather than an opposition MP who probably will not be in government.
It was not easy watching last night, there was something wrong about that audience.
Just disagree by not clapping or the odd shout of rubbish, but she was ridiculed last night.
I am not a fan, but I think she is probably a nicer person with a kinder heart than May, I certainly do not think she deserved to be ridiculed on TV.

Thoughts on tonight's QT:

1. Fiona Bruce good again.
2. Diane Abbott remains a shambles.
3. Tory Minister Rory Stewart surprisingly plausible. Shows there is the odd decent Tory if you look hard enough.
4. Oakeshott her normal smug Hard Brexit self.
5. Derby - Home of Rolls Royce and Toyota - a city of turkeys voting for Christmas. Depressing to hear these fools. A world away from last week's London audience.

Just watched last night's programme on Iplayer. Just incredible how this lot in Derby cheered no deal, it will turn places like this into the rust belt. Then who will they blame?

I met Mr and Mrs Bigot in Mexico last year who were staunch Baggie fans and boy their attitudes were so out of touch it was frightening beyond belief.

They were totally devoid of how the South economy works and requirement for immigrant workforces as they called them but to me just other workers.

Diane Abbott accuses BBC Question Time of legitimising racism

Labour MP’s spokesperson claims she was mocked and interrupted more than other panellists

Diane Abbott has accused BBC Question Time of legitimising racist abuse after claims that the shadow home secretary was singled out before and during Thursday night’s episode of the political discussion programme.

The Labour politician claimed she had been unfairly mocked in the warm-up and had been interrupted more often than other panellists by Fiona Bruce, the programme’s new chair.

“We are appalled by the treatment of Diane Abbott on BBC’s Question Time,” a spokesperson for Abbott said. “It was clear that a hostile atmosphere was whipped up, propped up by reports of inappropriate and sexist commentary in the audience warm-up session.

“A public broadcaster like the BBC should be expected to be a model of impartiality and equality. The BBC cannot claim anything of the sort when analysis of the programme shows that the only black woman on the panel was jeered at and interrupted more times than any other panellist, including by the chair herself.

“The media must stop legitimising mistreatment, bias and abuse against Ms Abbott as a black woman in public life. The BBC should be ashamed that their programming is complicit in such behaviour.”

Audience members who attended the filming of Question Time in Derby claimed that the warm-up for the programme included innuendo about Abbott’s past relationship with Jeremy Corbyn and that the audience booed her name when it was announced.

The audience loudly applauded when she was asked about Corbyn’s refusal to engage in Brexit talks with Theresa May unless the prime minister ruled out a no-deal departure from the EU.

Abbott’s staff suggested the warm-up had “set the whole audience up to be quite negative” about the politician, while pointing at online viral videos suggesting Bruce had interrupted Abbott more than the other panellists.

A BBC spokesperson said the corporation had been in touch with Abbott’s team but suggested some of the claims about the show’s treatment of her which went viral on social media are false. “We are sorry to hear Diane Abbott’s concerns over last night’s edition of Question Time and we have contacted her team today to reassure them that reports circulating on social media are inaccurate and misleading. Diane is a regular and important contributor to the programme … we firmly reject claims that any of the panel was treated unfairly either before or during the recording.”

Question Time and other BBC current affairs programmes have become a lightning rod for claims of media bias against Labour, with the corporation repeatedly forced to defend aspects of its presentation of political topics.

The Momentum campaign group launched a petition demanding the BBC apologise after Bruce backed claims that Labour was behind in the opinion polls.

The Momentum petition referred to an exchange where panellist Isabel Oakeshott said that Labour were “way behind in the polls” and Abbott replied that “we are kind of level-pegging” before Bruce said that Labour were “definitely” behind. But recent polling has found the two parties roughly neck and neck.

She was interrupted more because she went off-question more than the others. Fiona Bruce' style is to ensure that the question asked gets answered, nothing more. She kept people on question a lot in her first show no matter who they were.

The 'treatment' of Abbott was because she's thick, never answered a question directly and lied. Not because she's black. To complain about her treatment shows how stupid she really is.

Allows DA , on her own, go on QT.
It's like letting my mum pick up her grandchildren from school unsupervised. It's not worth the stress of what she might tell everyone this time.

I agree wholeheartedly with your last point (and most of the others). Diane Abbott's heart is in the right place and it is certainly true that she has had to fight harder to get where she is than most MPs, or even most people.

But that doesn't make her any good in a debate or on a panel. And it is too easy to accuse people of racism if they jeer or mock her. There are many possible reasons for that and in a way it is racist if black people can't be mocked like anyone else, as the criticism of Question Time suggests. That said, I thought Fiona Bruce did pick on her, and Abbott was quite wise to hold her tongue after that vicious attack from an audience member.

She claimed 'Everything was on the table' moments after saying no deal wasn't on the table. Either she doesn't understand the English language or she lied.
