Even with Jamie Bulger stuff and basically shouting down the woman who dared to question him?

He was right though.
Why SHOULD we all have the right to know what Venables has done to land himself back in chokey ? Its not in the "public interest" at all, other than to fill another column in the Daily Mail and churn up a few lurid headlines in the red-tops for us to sermonise over. What would it actually achieve, for us to find out what he's done ? And I include the family in that as well.

Agreed - whilst it was a terrible thing he and his mate did, they were messed up 10 year old kids and you just can't put that in the same context as for example the yorkshire ripper, which seems to be the way they are viewed. Why the hell should we have the right to know anything about them?

And yes - Carol Voordeman was clueless. She should stick to numbers.

''messed up'' ??, as ive stated before ,i'm not part of the string em up camp, but they were a little bit more than ''messed up'', when all's said and done you know what you are doing at ten years of age, i dont believe you can ever be cured of a disorder like they so obviously have,
no doubt someone on here will enquire as to my fitness to make such judgements, well the ''experts'' have been found wanting far too often for comfort havent they ?

To play devils adovate - court rooms are public places where you can see why people get sent to prison. Indeed the press often report the outcome of a case. So why is it any different when someone breaks the rules when out on license ?

I agree with CV on this one - it's anything but a life sentence and very weak.

Under normal circumstances yes, a trial in court is a public affair and reported on accordingly. But the unique circumstances surrounding this man would turn the whole thing into a huge media circus, a feeding frenzy, and it would become almost impossible to maintain his anonimity.

Now perhaps that might end up satisfying the "blood lust" of the string-em-up brigade, and maybe once that happened he would come to a brutal end either behind bars or if/when he is released, if thts what people really want or feel he deserves. Maybe there's some strange desire for people to see what he looks like 17 years on, I dunno. But speaking personally, its not something I would enjoy seeing splashed all over the media, nor would I gain any personal satisfaction from it.

I don't NEED to know what this bloke has done now, and I really don't think anyone else does either.

Completely agree Easy! All publicising what he had done would ensure is that he would need to have his identity changed again at a cost of thousands tot he tax payer and stir up all the public feeling again.

Telling us what caused his recall does not bring back Jamie Bulger nor will it change public opinion. But what the hell, the John Terry affair is now not on the front pages so the general public (aka Sun readers) need to have their witch hunt.

It wasn't what he said as everyone is entitled to their opinion, the fact it will come out is beyond the point, its the way he said it. I found him to be very patronising and it was just a shame no one gave him some back

I think thats just his style.
Will Self cannot utter a word without it sounding sneering and condescending, or postively dripping with sarcasm or irony. He's often right though.

At least he's got rid of that rather frightening beard.

I thought it was quite entertaining with an interesting mix.

Panelist ratings from me:

WS 8/10 lots of sensible comments and not too biased one way or the other
CV 2/10 I used to adore her beauty and latent sexual potency but having seen her drivel on like a demented leader of the Tories I went right off her
BJ 9/10 & 1/10 - at times he was almost coherent and intelligent but then drifted off as normal into childish ramblings of the funniest order
SW 7/10 although she's getting on she still has most of her marbles and dealt with most issues in a fair way
AA 5/10 didn't look comfortable at times and certainly no political heavy weight but I have seen worse

DD 4/10 not one of his best performances but having to content with CV and BJ whitering on and interupting every 5 minutes wasn't easy
