Question for Virgos haircut or any railway person!

Why does a train wait at a red light 20 yards from a station platform when the light is at the exit end of the platform and to draw up and allow punters to get on would not mean crossing the light?

I am probably a wuss, but when I am feezing on the platform it doesn't half wind me up.

And another thing.

Wouldn't it assist in packing us punters on board if the train was standing at the platform that bit longer. No sooner have the punters exited (alighted in railway talk) then the platform staff are shrieking 'stand away' to the poor punters at the back of the queue to get on.

Cheers!!

maybe its because the little tracks aren't pointing the right direction and the red light means "STOP MR TRAIN - IF YOU GO FORWARD YOU WILL SHOOT OFF IN THE WRONG DIRECTION, JUST WAIT A TICK AND WE'LL MOVE THE LITTLE TRACK BITS TO MAKE SURE YOU GO WHERE THE PASSENGERS ARE EXPECTING" and then the little man runs out of the little box and pushes the tracks over so the train goes forward...

Understandamundo?

You are talking nonsense. Can we have a blazing row ending in flounces now?

On a train...
Perry,

Is the train waiting at a red outside the platform? Or is the red light at the end of the platform? Is the train scheduled to stop at the station?

I cannot be sure if it is waiting at a red light just before the platform starts. There is a red light at the exit end though.

Just seems impractical when a couple of hundered commuters are waiting to get on.

Cheers

What station are you talking about?

I'm not sure of the answer if a train is a waiting outside the station (and it booked to stop) whilst not sitting a red light. If a train is not booked to stop then on most occasions the train will draw short of the platform so not to cause people to attempt to get on.

But if it's a red outside the station then it cannot pass that signal until its no longer a red, or it would be a SPAD. (Signal Passed at Danger). Which may cause the driver to lose his job. Even if the platform is clear, there are signal sections. Until one train has left that section, another train is not allowed into that section.

It thst the rules then so be it. Seems odd that at 7.28 'ish a train can pull into platform 5( toward london) but my train on 4 (7.29 LV)(also toward london) stands outside the staition. Both lines have a red light at the exit end of the station. maybe the answer is the the train on 5 does not have a red light barring its entry into EC.

Thanks anyhow.
