Liverpool were doing it long before Barcelona when during Shankly's time it was said a left back could come into the 1st team from the 3rd and know exactly what to do. The problem comes when the players know what to do but cant do it as an example watch Wrexham goal on Tv. Both JFC and Sampayo ran along side the winger but failed to put in a tackle and when he entered the box it was too late. I agree that the Academy will hopefully bring on more players and pehaps players of better potential than we have at the moment instead of them going to London premier sides and us picking up their cast offs.
Where Gus saw more than us was in the way that a draw gives an extra game so Greer only misses 1 league game, whether or not that was his thinking with the 2 substitutions after they scored only he knows.
