What do you think?

Me, I think that if they are offended by that, we should be offended by many things they allow or don't.

FIFA needs to stand up to Qatar but they have already cashed the cheques!

Anyone who thought it was reasonable to turn up at matches in an Arab / Muslim country fancy-dressed as someone who raped, pillaged and occupied Arab lands, is a special level of stupid, and should consider themselves lucky if they are only refused entry to the games.

Utter pricks.

Would this be akin to walking round a majority back neighbourhood in America in a cheap imitation of a clan outfit, complete with plastic 'burning' crucifix?

Let's just say that although I am very much against the way civil rights are ignored in many countries (including in the Middle East) they're spot on with this. The Crusades were hideous in every way, and drive a lot of the deep seated resentment and mis-trust of the West by the Muslim world.

From what I could see on twitter, they had their swords confiscated but were allowed in and got them back after the game.

in all honesty not the brightest thing to do as it shows a distinct lack of manners and education.

You can't really argue with any of the above, it is pretty crass and at the very least antagonistic, you know what your wearing and your doing it for a reaction.

First thing FIFA/Qatar have done that I 100% agree with. And I know this is another proof of Godwin's Law but its the same as turning up at a Jewish party dressed as a Nazi stormtrooper.

For the record I think dressing as a crusader is stupid, but that is absolutely not an equivalent. It’s more akin to Norwegians coming to the U.K. dressed like vikings.
Hmm. I don't think the 'Viking' comparison is quite the same. The Viking invasions are seen as part of the waves of invasions that helped to create us, the English/British. The Crusades are still viewed in a hostile light by the Arab/Muslim world.

LOL..! Tough shit then.

Maybe after all the hundreds of years that have passed since then, it,s time they got over it.

Quite important to avoid whataboutery here. The banning of rainbow anything is ludicrous and unjust. The banning of "crusader garb" is completely fair and understandable. They're different issues.

You don't have to allow absolutely everything if you believe in fairness and freedom. Especially when one is about all human beings being born free and equal in dignity and rights, without distinction of any kind, and the other an inflammatory show of ignorance and aggression made to directly offend the home nation. Two very very different things.
