Q for STH, will raising the capacity of the stadium to 30,000........

Will raising the capacity of Falmer make you less likely to renew?

  • Less likely, as I know I can get a ticket for every match

I doubt it. Who would want a season ticket in the corners ? I expect most people are happy with there seats while some may want to sit elsewhere in the ground i cannot see many giving up there season tickets.

That would be my view too, but it does seem odd that if the ground is officially 'full' each match, and taking away attendances as as average of 1,500, so there are 700 seats free in the away end, then there must be about 1,800 STH who are NOT attending on a regular basis, and who perhaps only originally bought a ST because they wanted to attend a few matches.

I'd take a seat in the north west corner, should be a decent atmosphere in there.

Think we may lose a thousand or so but would expect the waiting list to replace these. If we rally well and finish strong this season then a good chance we will attract even more people.

I doubt it's the same 1800 STH every game. Probably more like 10,000 or so STH who miss the occasional game.

You left out an option on the poll!

Less likely because the queues for the trains will be even worse with crowds of 30,000.

A few people got an ST just so they could go to the Doncaster game.

I wouldn't want to give up my seats (WSU front row) other than, possibly, relatively central WSM 1901 Club nomatter what availability there may or may not be.

So: staying put.

There's also the 100s of comps that go unused every game.

Woudn't want to give up our seats in East Family, really good view of North Goalmouth and close enough to North Stand to hear the chants & feel the atmosphere

I don't go for the atmosphere, I like a seat with the best view of the game.

Really? Interesting viewpoint, I'm all about the atmosphere.....thinking of moving next year from WU to the north for that very reason.

As I understand it the theory goes as follows:

If you have more demand for match day tickets than seats then people are more likely to buy season tickets to assure themselves of a seat when/if they want to go. Looks like this is the case at the moment.

However, if you add 8,000 more seats, we're unlikely to sell out for all but the biggest games. So people who bought season tickets purely to ensure a seat for matches they fancied may not then renew because they are confident they can get a seat for any game they fancy.

So the effect of adding more seats could easilybe that season ticket sales fall.

As for the missing 10%. The above could be part of that - you can see how a less than die-hard fan could miss two or three games a season - and that gives us the missing 10% immediately. Different people, perfectly valid reasons, niot passing on their ticket. 10% seats empty.

The more we can bring in the better.

I know plenty of Lads that want to go to a few games but have given up trying to get a ticket.

Increase the capacity so everyone who wants to go to a game can.

Id say 30,000 would be about right to cover the need.
