I have followed the Albion for over 30 years and Good Old Sussex By The Sea has always been our tune to walk out on the pitch to.

However these days I think it sounds totally dated, and a bit rubbish.

I think Fatboy Slims brilliant Put Your Hands Up for Brighton should definately replace it.

Does anyone else?

I love GOSBTS and it will always be our tune, but I can see a point with changing the tune we run out to. For Albion fans, GOSBTS would fire us up, but not sure about the players.

Give it a try out as GOSBTS doesn't lend itself well to remixes etc, and anyway, sound plain wrong when attempted.

Either try a new tune to come out to, and play GOSBTS just before, or at least get a new recording of it done, 'cause the one that is played at Withers is worse than some of my old 33's.......

Its like saying shall we change our kit to red and blue stripes, and change the badge to an eagle

although its a stupid idea, Tommy Elphick showed us the dance moves whilst taking his penalty.

I concur

GOSBTS is the ONLY tune for me. Been playing it since before i can remember and has personal reasons for me as well.

It should NEVER be replaced!!!!!!!!!!

Agree with all of the above, as does my father and as did my grandfather (RIP)

However, Withdean and I raises a good point. There are other tunes that we should be using to wind up the crowd before the game.

Stand Up for Brighton could be used after the team have run on the pitch to GOSBTS just before kick-off (although the stewards would hate it). There are other great Albion tunes - we could play them too.

I know I had a thread about this before - but I am convinced that "Where Seagulls Fly" has some merit if it was re-worked by the right people.

Any other Brighton tunes we could have? And don't even think about "The Goldstone Rap".

The playlist before the game should include some recent stuff to keep the kids interested, as some of the music choice is a bit questionable and leaves a lot of people miffed.

anything that gets the crwod singing along is great. England do it at Wembley, and gets the crowds singing, the flags waving.

The only songs that do that at Withdean are the ones gully's girls dance along too.

These will all do the trick, but the team MUST run out to Sussex by the Sea

Wierdly I was only thinking on the way into work what I'd like to see at the opening match at Falmer. I remember at Withdean the club got a brass band to play GOSBTS but I'd like to see the Massed Bands of The Royal Marines playing it at the first match at Falmer.

Imagine a 200+ soilder band martching out - THAT would spruce up GOSBTS !!!! Given that it would be expensive I'd even be prepared to say chuck in £50 per year until the opening ( and of course it will be 2010 ! ) into a supporters fund to help pay for the opening party !!!!

As an aside - the players should ALWAYS run out to GOSBTS - play other tunes either side by all means.

I think I would actually CRY if at the first game at Falmer there was a brass band on the pitch playing Sussex by the Sea and on every seat in the ground there was an A4 piece of paper with the below words on it, and everyone sung IN TIME with the band, instead of the 1000bpm version we normally sing.

Now is the time for marching
Now let your hearts be gay
Hark to the merry bugles
Sounding along our way
So let your voices ring, my boys,
And take the time from me
And I'll sing you a song, as we march along,
Of Sussex by the Sea.

For we're the men from Sussex
Sussex by the sea,
We plough and sow and reap and mow,
And useful men we are we:
And when you go from Sussex,
Whoever you may be,
You tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Light is the love of a soldier
That's what the ladies say
Lightly he goes a-wooing
Lightly he rides away,
In love and war, we always are
As fair as fair can be,
And a soldier boy is the ladies joy
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Far o'er the seas we wander
Wide through the world we roam,
Far from the kind hearts yonder
Far from our dear old home,
But never shall we forget my boys
And true we'll ever be
To the girls so kind that we left behind
In Sussex by the sea.

Oh, Sussex, Sussex by the sea
Good old Sussex by the Sea
You may tell them all that we stand or fall
For Sussex by the sea.

Agree - there must be enough bands in Sussex who would happily re-record it. Or better still - get a massive band on the pitch playing it live.

Best leave that idea 'til we get to the new ground - the one time they got a brass band on the pitch at Withdean nobody could hear what they were playing.

As for the original premise of the thread - absolutely F*CKING NOT!!

(and somebody take Gully and Co out back and put them out of our misery while you're at it)

ANYBODY who suggests replacing the timeless national anthem of the Seagull Nation with some bit of ephemeral pop crap needs shooting.

No. No. No.
