If I remember correctly he wrote in his second autobiography that he did the adverts to get money to fund a Public Image Ltd tour.
As a matter of interest my guess is you may be up to 10 years younger than me (early 50s)? Did you ever see any of this stuff? You posted 'right to work' on another thread a couple of years ago, apparently oblivious about the singer's antecedents (I raised one eyebow). Were you there (78-82) or did you just read about it?
I'd give more credit to your serious political posts (which are quite interesting - internment is a bit risky but sometimes needs must, albeit we probably disagree about the risk:benefit ratio at present) if you looked more like you actually had a clue about what you're going on about.

Hang on....Malcolm Owen died in 1980. That would have been Ruts DC you saw in 81, although it says 'Ruts' on the first web page I landed on. I saw the Ruts in Brighton but that must have been in 79.
