so the outcome is that 60 million annual sales is insignificant and many thousands or millions of people are wrong

How many of those pie sales are at football grounds and shit chippies though? I would wager well over half of pukka pies sales do not involve someone consciously choosing a Pukka pie. They really are dreadful, and frankly you are trolling.

There is simply no way you can appreciate Turners and Bangers, and at the same time rate Pukka pies over Piglet's Pies. It is impossible to hold both of those views, either you do not like chunks of meat in a pie, or you do.

And final word on this, make your own pie. It really is the way forward, simply the most satisfying thing you can cook if you totally nail it.

Thinking long and hard about it, into the dim and distant past, i think the Walsall pies were Pukka.
Now then, I have had some poor pies from Pukka, but I remember the Walsall balti one that night was very nice and did not drop all over the terrace.

The balti pie is a great invention. The perfect post-modern culinary response to multicultural Britain.

I like them and think that they are by far the best generally available through out the UK. Just been reading about them and apparently they make 100,000 per day with yearly sales exceeding 60 million, that is phenomenal sales. The biggest seller is Chicken Balti pushing Steak and Kidney into 2nd place with Chicken & Mushroom 3rd.Their new flavour for the 18/19 season is Vegetable Tikka Masala. If only we had them at The Amex., t

Thought you took sandwiches anyway ?

For my two cents worth, Pukka pies are generally shit and a last resort.

Piglets started outstanding and for me have dropped to above average. No doubt this is to do with production volume.

Stupid people, not fat people

there are more idiots than chubbers, and I can think of skinny ****wits too.

A good pie is hard to to find. . . And to my liking is not terrace friendly. Although as a kid I remember 'beano' pies from a place in Kemp Town? A round pie, sort of a pasty internals with baked beans in it? Bizarre!

Fat people are easily pleased with shit food.

I don't mind Pukka Pies, just a bog standard pie, usually edible.

Piglets are much nicer though in my opinion, better quality in every way.

100,000 x 365 days = 36.5 mil NOT 60 mil.
Very FLAKY figures ...
I'd be questioning your sauce.

McDonald's sell millions of burgers. They're shit. Or would you argue that they sell the best burgers?

Nando's sell millions of portions of chicken. They're shit. Or would you argue that they're actually the best restaurant to go to for chicken?

The Sun sells millions of copies. It's shit. Or would you argue that it's the best newspaper?

X Factor has millions of viewers. It's shit. Or is it the best TV show?

Michael McIntyre has millions of fans. He's shit. Or maybe he's the greatest comedian in Britain?

Yes, millions of people can be wrong.

For the price they are great value. If you have a family of 4 to feed then a great meal. If cooked just right in the oven they are delicious after a hard day's work. Can't believe people can be so snobby over a pie. The Piglets Pantry pies are ok but they are not that much better and I stopped eating them as I always get indigestion from them.

Blimey don't you make the pies yourself for dinner.

Our pastry chef does a fine job.

Pukka cornered the Fish and Chip shop market years ago and now owners are reluctant to change because of brand identity. As previously mentioned, they are also stocked at a number of football grounds and mobile vans use them a lot.
In my opinion, there are three types of pie.....1) Economy. Found in own label in the supermarkets, dirt cheap and awful. 2) Mainstream. e.g Pukka and other ' mass produced ' product. Reasonable quality for what you pay but nothing special. 3) Gourmet. Good quality and filling and at a premium price.
1) 60p
2) £1.00-£1.50
3) £2.50+
Piglets Pies sit somewhere between Gourmet and Mainstream ( forget the price at the Amex...that doesn't indicate quality ) They have declined in quality as the business moved from ' cottage industry ' to ' industrial estate unit ' production.
There are good quality pies to be found all over. The trouble is, a lot of people don't bother to use local Butchers, many of whom produce excellent local product, with traceable, quality filling. Most Pie making awards in this country go to Butchers. There are specialist pie shops now and Turners are just one example of good, local product.
Pukka pies are mass produced and relatively cheap. You get what you pay for.

Clearly a windup. Pukka are shite. That said, Piglet's have done a job on us - made their name, soldout to half the sporting arena's in the South East, and left us with an average, crusty pie with half the filling it used to have. Overppriced too.

Yes, quality has fallen and yes overpriced but that is because of the margins being taken out of them, by Piglets, the caterer and the club. This is a pie that could easily be retailed for £2.50-£2.99 or less if it was being sold directly to the club for resale. There is too much oncost built in with contract catering.

I would have bought a brisket pie if I knew it was available. I wanted the chicken pieces, but no longer available, so tried a sausage roll from the Hophouse kiosk. OK but wouldn't bother again.

I'm a lost soul now I can't bring in my home heated, Pukka pie which I used to smuggle through the turnstiles in my extra large flask. Damn the club for realising that this is why their pie sales were dropping last season!

Barber out!
