That part is shit, but is a separate issue altogether.

No, it is not separate, that is the problem. Without a shadow of a doubt, Sussex Police have politely 'reminded' licences of their responsibilities to ensure public order is maintained within their premises and offered advice as how to best ensure that there will be no objections to any up and coming licence renewal applications. If a licensed premise were to have disorder occur after having been 'advised' to perhaps close on a particular evening then this 'could' be seen as irresponsible behaviour by the licensee etc etc ad infinitum.

In any other scenario this might be called blackmail. Thankfully some landlords have balls, other have bills to pay.

Well that would indeed be shit. If the police had gone that far though, surely far more places would be closing their doors.

Linked obviously. But different.

The police and clubs have come up with the unnecessary 2,000 limit. That's one response to a perceived issue.

The pubs each get to choose THEIR response. As far as this thread goes, only the Evening Star's seems drastic.

The BoT is normally full and not letting anyone in, pretty early on the day of a big game anyway, so calling that a 'private party' isn't really going to change anything - just gives them a 'right' to turn away anyone they don't like the look of.

The Caxton again - not closing or limiting numbers - just reserving the right to turn people away if they don't want them in. Why shouldn't they? The fella has just got the keys to the place, and it's been open about two days since an expensive refurb - in his shoes I'd reserve the right to be careful, too.

Which goes to show that the feet stomping is a bit OTT

I'm looking forward to the meltdowns on here on Wednesday morning.

Things will happen guaranteed but the only winners will be Balkham and the cctv state

Old Shoreham Road :o(
The local police came into the Battle (not Darren Balkham) and told the landlord that unless they had door security staff and used plastic glasses, they would shut the pub down for the day.

Pete decided that as a) he's always tried to make the place fan friendly, and b) has always tried to treat people as adults, that he would make it a private party!

Tinpot policing. You'd think this was the only Derby match in the English League.

The Evening Star used to shut for Leeds at home, back in our Withdean years. Usually for "refurbishment".

Was explained to me , that when OB block Surrey Street of with their vans, people don't venture down there, so not worth them opening.

Saw a tweet from The Caxton saying it would be open tomorrow, home fans only though.

Err well obviously. If you owned a pub are you saying you would like a group of idiots smashing it up?

This is PPF.

He'd be furiously thrumming himself in the corner just at the thought of it all kicking off.

I love the thought process of some fans, their reaction is either to blame the pubs for not opening or the police for not controlling it. Perhaps there is a 3rd option to blame- the utter willy waving tools who cause trouble? Just a thought.

The Caxton ,under new ownership, again (!) has a very odd stance on football. They have announced on social media that they are categorically "NOT a football pub" and do not show any games at all, ever. They will have door lads on and only allow admission to home fans. Then they show a pic of a corner of the pub somewhere with what looks like a hastily assembled shrine to BHA and the Amex. All very odd and all a bit JCL/cynical attempt to lure BHA fans in even though they are in their own words, not a football pub. Odd to even bother raising the subject at all.
