Where’s the best place to head to near anfield or is it best to just go straight to the ground??

Can't help you on the pub front, but if you are taking the car, make sure you allow time to remove your wheels and the catalytic converter and sell them to the porn dealer, then you can just pick them up after the match.
Good luck UTA.

I wish I could remember all the names of the bars and pubs I went in when we played them a few years back in the FA Cup. What I do remember; it was an excellent away day.

Not much help I know but you did put a smile on my face.

The porn dealers are all online these days.

Another recommendation for the Arkles. Always a decent mix of fans and I've never seen any problems when I've been in there.

Wear a tracksuit to fit in with the locals . Speak very quickly in an accent no one understands and swear a lot . Walk quickly with a portion of chips open in one hand . If you are going with your wife or partner ask her to wear false eyelashes and lots of orange glow foundation and again a tracksuit but velour for the ladies with a knock off LV shoulder bag and high heels. You will both fit right in …..Sterotype moi ..

Plenty of decent boozers in Liverpool and plenty to avoid as well - I'm not sure anyone would make it out of the Croc alive for example.

Not necessarily near the ground but Thomas Rigby's is about 10 minutes from Lime Street, serves a decent pint, will have the 12.30 KO on and you can jump in a cab or wander down to the station at Lord Street to get to the ground. The ones around the ground generally have that 'Bread' feeling

The Arkles. Head down Anfield Road and it’s about 700 yards from the Shankley gates
I think you must have been a little worse for wear when you left The Arkles. It's almost bang on the Shankley Gates as it's right by Anfield stadium!

It was my local for a year when I lived by the ground. Decent pub.

The Arkles. So close to the ground you'd expect it to be a home pub but they let everyone in. Never seen trouble there. Also have plenty of staff to ensure you get served quickly.
To those who have never been to Anfield I would suggest popping round to the Fan Zone to see how it's done. Expensive food and drink but to see the guys on stage geeing up the crowd into a frenzy and then the arrival of the team coaches you understand how come the away coaches get pelted. One minute at the Hillsborough Memorial will have you in tears. There is so much history at this ground.

Very true. I've driven to Anfield 3 times and had my car nicked twice. You have been warned.
