I am sure that there must be a bye law covering such events and if Its Magic is a charity is one allowed to ask who benefits from this charity.
Just had a look, and I think I may have been mistaken. As far as I can see, it is not a charity but makes "Charitable donations".

If that's the case, I wonder what they pay to rent out Victoria Park, from the council. What is the going rate for renting14.5 acres for a long weekend?

What would they also pay to close The Broadway 3 times a year. I noticed the farmers market which did the same appears to have been stopped now probably due to lack of patronage. Would Its Magic's charitable donation be similar to the % rose sellers in night clubs give, very minimal, just sufficient to qualify as a donation..

I would have thought anything that livened up the dullness in Haywards Heath would be welcome with open arms. Guess i didn't take into the account the spite of middle England when they think someone might be getting something they're not.

My beef isn't with staging these events in Victoria Park although perhaps I should have because it stops my grandchildren using the park and probably many other children early evening, but with the closure of The Broadway which causes immense traffic congestion going from Heath Rd to Hazlegrove Road and around the one way system and the fact that I cannot walk the easiest route from my home to the station.

I would be quite happy if the music festival due to be held on 26th August was held in the park, but then Savanahs and Orange Sq wouldn't get any knock on trade that would go to the local shops and mobile bars in the park.

Never causes that much congestion when they close it for the market. I'm actually suprised how quiet the broadway is in terms of traffic. I cycle up and down it everyday and its far quieter than i thought it was going to be even at peak times.

Oh and I'm sure the council will charge a going rate for using the park/road

It caused immense problems having to divert the buses down Heath Rd on a Saturday, if you ask anybody who has to use that road, but fortunately it seems as if the market has finished now. For the sake of about 8 stalls there was at all times at least 12 vehicles waiting to turn from Heath Rd to Hazlegrove Rd.

It is true, that I know a local company who would love to be able to cover the town in advertisements. I know that when they tried the odd cheeky poster they were threatened with a littering fine of £100 per leaflet/poster.

I don't care if someone in general provides some sort of service and makes lots of money off it. It does wind me up, when holy than holy local big wigs, take the piss, whilst all the brown noses jump on the bandwagon. It does not help when anyone pointing out the gross inequality is labelled spiteful, though the sight of lackeys jumping in, can be amusing if dull..

I don't know about the park but, as far as a road closure is concerned, Councils aren't allowed to charge more than the costs they incur for the legal work necessary to grant a road closure order. Contrary to what people think, the roads don't "belong" to the Council; the Council simply has a legal duty to ensure that the public has the use of them. This includes the legal rights of the public to seek a road closure for events to take place on the roads.

The 'it's magic' promotion company give all their profits to local charities like Hurstwood Park so I would imagine that gaining permission to close the broadway a opulent of times a year would be very easy.

If that is the case why is it not made more public that this happens and the question of 'profits' is very ambiguous as it is more a question of the acceptable expenses. If for example they had £5000 profit it would be very easy to think of or concoct a charge or expense that is payable to any individual for £4000 and eat into that profit thus gaining the money and only donating £1000.

Basically BG - if the road is closed, fine anoter route. I take it this is not ALL the time?

Life is full of little inconveniences, but that happens, thats life. There are roadworks near where I live at the moment, when the schools go back, traffic will be a nightmare, I will have to leave a little early, however, there is signs up warning me of this, I have to get on with it.

From what I recall of the year that Airbourne charged an entry fee other things change as well. If it is a free event, then the police, St. John's Ambulance etc do not charge for their services. However if it is a charged event they do.

What like making it known on their public website? It's Magic! Live Music Concerts Not for Profit

I must admit I hadn't read their website until now and wasn't aware of any donations to charity but as a charity are their accounts open for inspection.

This, I wouldnt take too much notice of voroshilov though, he loves to take potshots at "middle england" to bolster his working class credentials.

If they were a charity they would be, but they are a not for profit organisation. Wouldn't be any point in becoming a charity as they don't do chairtable work themselves but give money to charity.

Do you have any reason to doubt that they dont give all their profits to charity?

No it is just me being a cynic through having been a publican and realising that in a charity event the only person who makes a profit from it is the man/publican organising the event hence the main reason for staging it in the first place. Rather than cause a storm within official circles and be made to look either wrong or stupid it is easier to do it on here and find out the answers where nobody really cares what others think of you.

There is a difference though between organising a charitable event where you also make money from the sidelines (like a publican might do) and delibrately diverting money from the profits from said event to your own back pocket.

You seemed to be suggesting the latter so I'd be careful as this is a public forum so very easy for someone involved to come across it.
