Q: Which are the only 3 English counties to have never won cricket's County Championship?

A: Gloucestershire, Northamptonshire and Somerset

Slightly misleading one this. The County Championship was established in 1873 and Gloucestershire won the inaugural championship (and several subsequent ones) - they were the dominant club in the 1870s, thanks to the Grace brothers.The trouble was: there was no official way of deciding the winner and in 1886, two counties claimed the title. To make things clearer, a points system was established so that there could be an undisputed winner (or winners, it has been tied) and 1890 saw the first official winner - Surrey.

So, Gloucestershire have 'won' the CC but have never been official winners.
