Maybe calm down with the rhetoric. Nobody tested anyone tonight, anywhere, least of all Brighton. I do know the Police are exhausted though. Hopefully nobody, however righteous and well meaning, protests tomorrow so they can have a night off from all this craziness.

I agree with the above.

I am in a minority of one probably when I say that none of this sits comfortably with me so please don’t all jump on me - it’s only a personal POV - It just seems though as if a lot of people on social media/online forums have been getting too much of a buzz from all the “excitement” over the past few days as well as sensationalising events and magnifying the unrest to the point of almost declaring civil war had broken out.

I’m not surprised, but am brought low that so many people have tried to ’whataboutery’ the violence, blamed innocent people on both ‘sides’, including Kier Starmer and sought to legitimise racist thugs as somehow being forgiven for ‘finally running out of patience’ with the democratic process that’s failed to listen to them..

I’ve not been impressed with anything about any of this, tbh. It just makes me sad that large numbers of people are being manipulated into various forms of action by shadowy forces (including foreign ones) that they can’t even begin to recognise - including by Farage whose next stage strategy this week was to incite a righteous hatred of the far right by anti-immigrants so they mobilise as counter protestors onto the streets and stake out the higher moral ground - that the ‘real’ forces behind the civil unrest hope will polarise violent confrontations between the two ‘sides’. I was around during the violent clashes between the anti-nazi League and the National Front in the early 80s - people are naive if they think when counter protestors meet the far right, there are never violent clashes - of course there are.

With that many people congregated in Brighton I am surprised FatBoySlim didn't pop out for a quick set.
Or Chris Eubank driving along the sea front in his Big Rig, wearing riding jodhpurs and handing out signed photos, whether you want one or not

BBC reporting that anti-protestors have taken Hastings & Southampton. It's like a landslide on election night.
We had tickets for Southampton v Lazio this evening - we’re debating earlier on as to whether to risk it. Had a phone call from the place we were going to eat before the match to say they had been advised by the police to close….. and so were doing so. Worked out a route to get to the ground to avoid potential trouble spots.

but what trouble spots. Anti- fascist out in large numbers and peaceful. A handful of anti-immigration protesters. Result!

and Saints we’re not impressive………

It's got to be a bit disappointing when the fellas you expected to be luzzing bricks and wheely bins at, have to bundle to you into a van for your own protection *

six feet beneath the moon
may be jumping the gun but it does finally feel like the country is healing from the past weeks, just a little. long way to go, of course, with continued ups and downs.

what i will say though is that britain is a nation where the vast majority of people are good people, the far right are a tiny, tiny minority, and we’ve only ended up at this point because of them and their views endlessly being platformed by a media/political class who are, i would say, responsible for about 90% of the problems in our country.

I do wonder how those three came to be in that situation.

Did they wander around a bit, fail to find what they were looking for and then ask someone "HI, we're racists here for the protest - where do we need to go?". before being shown to a doorway.
At the very least they should get the book thrown at them for crimes against fashion.

And here is a gammon MP who thinks that saying 'god is great' is some sort of threat.

There is no god, but liking her is no crime. FFS.

Well that' s all very lovely.

Hopefully this sentiment continues and all the "I'm not racist but" crowd, who've felt emboldened over the past 8 years or so, will finally understand.:

YOU ARE NOT THE (previously) SILENT MAJORITY!

you are, and always have been , the embarrassing relative that everyone wishes, would just SHUT THE f*** UP!

Brighton factually.....

you are not alone in this, the Southport reaction was terrible and leaped upon very quickly by the right.
Other northern towns with underlying issues were also manipulated by the right.
It is not lost on me the larger counter demonstrations are mainly in the south, that also needs to be addressed for far too long there has been a north south divide.

The four far right “protesters“ that came to Brighton last night, did not look like hardcore Nazis, they looked lost and vulnerable, don’t shoot me down. It was a pathetic number that turned up by the right, and I did predict hardly any would come, but let’s be honest 2000 counter protesters in a city of 250000 is a low turn out also.
Those four lads may well re think their political position or ideology now, I’m glad they were not attacked which could reinforce their motives, dialogue and discussion can go along way, address their fears wether legitimate or not.

Me too, this is not the same, it’s a different game now, gone are the days of hundreds or thousands of NF marching through town thank goodness. Todays battlefield is on social media.

SKS needs to address the fears of people and take the initiative away from the right, by not labelling all on the streets left or right, because that’s part of the problem, labels.

what do I know

I believe they are being protected by police as they are outnumbered by about 500 to 1.

I imagine they would have just got jeered and laughed at rather than any physical harm coming to them.
maybe but there was a guy in the yellow vest that gave a sly dig to one of them when the police woman turned her back so not sure

Looked like a few more as Brett Mendoza posted a pic up of a few different ones
