Also posted on the Farage thread.

From the BBC website

  • Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Leeds man became the first person to face prosecution for posting allegedly criminal messages linked to the recent spate of violence. He's been charged with posting content online intending to stir up racial hatred

You seem to have ignored the OED's primary definition of unrest:

1.a.a1382– Disharmony; disturbance, turmoil, trouble; discord, strife; (in later use esp.) disturbance or turmoil resulting from dissatisfaction or anger within a society or community, typically taking the form of public demonstrations or disorder.

On the subject of Queens Road can anyone confirm the previous name of the Hope and Glory pub, as used to be a regular on student nights during the late 90’s, was it’s The Pig?

Got a mate that works in town, apparently its likely to start at 6/7 tomorrow and shop owners have been warned to close if it starts to kick off. Plan is to kettle people to the level so fights don't break out in the laines.. they're optimistic nothing will happen though..

No. They can’t.

What we do know is some offices on Queens Road are possibly on a list that is supposedly doing the rounds online.
Our office is now shutting from 2pm tomorrow. But another friend in central Brighton has been told by his company they all have to take a different route home as something is happening now.

Can anyone tell me verified information about what is actually happening in town tomorrow ? I have staff concerns and want to make sure folk can avoid the area.
I'm not sure anything is verified because until it happens, it's talk.

But it seems staggeringly naive not to acknowledge what the talk is. It is apparently happening tomorrow and the area around Brighton train station is to be avoided. Do not expect to be able to access the station from the early evening.

Hopefully, none of it happens - but the seeming prevailing wisdom of not mentioning it on this thread seems mad to me. People need to know what's being spoken about and the police are taking it seriously enough to be preparing for a major scale event.

Let them go home before 6 and they should be fine, my daughter works at a seafront hotel the police came in yesterday telling them to lock the doors around that time.

Brighton factually.....

Oh Sausages, I will be getting off the train around 6pm, I might have to a re-think of my regular attire for tomorrow a slight change from my bald head, covered by a flat cap, steel toe cap boots, ripped jeans and King Kurt "Ban the Whale" t-shirt and wear something a little less provocative....

Maybe a carnation in my lapel will do it.

We don't have to look that hard. They are aggrieved because for the last 14 years they have been hit by austerity, covid, and Brexit, seeing their communities and services slashed, their cost of living increase and their standard of living decrease.

Why are they targeting mosques and asylum seekers?

Because they have been persuaded that these are the people that have caused their problems.

Not rioting are the ruling classes who over the same period have enjoyed huge bonuses, huge profits, less restriction on their business practices, seats in the house of lords, high paid jobs in the press and little scrutiny or consequence for their nefarious and/or calamitous actions.

You will note that they are not rioting

Its really quite simple.

I don’t think your list is ‘simple’ in itself and the second paragraph reads more like what the great and the good of nsc think is the problem with the world, which I suspect would not be at the top of the list of the ‘rioters’ who are far more concerned about the changes in their communities due to the seeming failure of authorities to integrate different cultures and religions.

The only way we will know the answers to the problem is to discuss the problem with the most disaffected. After the riots have stooped of course.
