Rumours about a protest in Brighton.
I employ 3 students, all 100% legal but all foreign, and they've heard about a protest in Brighton. To be honest they are all shook up about it and want the day off. I don't want to give dates or place, but it's come back to me from many sources.
DON'T GIVE DATE HERE but wondered if anyone else had heard anything.
The specifics of both the protest and the counter-protest have been on here a few times already.

(No criticism for missing it - there’s been a lot posted)

Interesting. That makes sense.

Albeit you seem to be agreeing with me that men (white men of a certain sort) want to be like Farage and see him as a suitable Big Dog to follow in their perceived hierarchy.

I can understand the narrative but find it weird that they see Farage as the embodiment of the Big Dog. To me he's a laughable unattractive jackass
It could be anyone who says it. The important thing is the message. "That it's OK to look down and belittle, brown skinned, trans, gay and foreign people, you're better than them"

Don't think it's to do with individual envy or sexual desire.

I think it's to do with insecurity around status. So white, straight British males had historically been of perceived "high status". Latterly, more enlightened people are questioning that and denying they are better than anyone else

So then, Farage Tommy, GB News and incredibly Suella, ride in and make their name claiming anyone that threatens your raised social status rights are woke and their arguments must be rejected.

Those with this economic or more powerfully social insecurity, have their ego's firmly massaged and flutter around them whether they're arguments are manifestly bollocks or not.

I always think, watch any nature documentary for evidence of just how hierarchical apes in particular are and how powerful the rewards are for gaining social status. Evolutionary biology, still explains pretty much all human behaviour in my experience.
You can find a series of lectures from Dr Robert Sapolsky at Stanford University on YouTube, I think you would find them very interesting. He is a Neuroscientist and Primatologist. He is quite engaging and has influenced my thinking in ways I didn't expect. In fact, I would recommend anyone that has contributed to this thread to watch them, whatever opinion you hold.

So I won't be able to write as eloquently about others with more knowledge on the specifics of the sociological aspects of the rise of popularism or the popularity of Farage but I am empassioned about the impact its having.

We live in NW London (near but not in Pinner/Northwood) and my wife is Indian. When my then 5 year old daughter drew a picture of our family at school, her, her mum and her sister she drew with brown faces and me with a white face. That's how they identify.

This is important context because around here it is predominantly ethnically dominated by S Asian communities mostly Indian or Sri Lankan followed by White British (sometimes feels like ALL QPR supporters migrated out this way in the 80's) and then Eastern European. The point being it is a highly integrated mixed community which normally rubs along very nicely.

However since Brexit and more specifically post Covid the 'tone of voice' from the White British section has grown increasingly confident and loud in championing Farage and his ilk most frequently punctuated with 'oh but not you lot obviously, you know the one's coming here in the boats' which being the equivalent of the 'I'm not racist because some of my friends are black' brigade. But in the most recent 6 months there is also a worrying trend of the Asian boomer generation ALSO siding with him.

I engaged a friend's dad as to what he saw in Farage or his words that resonated with him specifically and he said 'he was fed up of this shit & that he speaks a lot of sense'

This to me is a really worrying turn of events because I believe they're all being kidded as to his real motivations and beliefs and sadly it's working to a much broader cross section of the population than I thought possible.

Well you appear to be saying despite these examples of where we know the political/institutional Government (recent and historical) have covered up “the truth”; in some cases willing to allow innocent people to be jailed or die instead of be served natural justice, that when tricky issues arise connected to the already politically sensitive issues of immigration (legal or illegal) the same political/institutional establishment can be trusted to provide “the truth”.

I don’t, and neither do millions of others. The moons aligned on the Southport attack in a way that they haven’t before. Within a matter of days a soldier was violently stabbed outside his house (immediately not considered terrorism but mental illness), police officers violently attacked at Manchester airport (where only part of the story was first made public by the media). Then children in Southport were attacked and despite the 3 casualties the same mental illness not terrorism position was adopted.

People have been angry about immigration and it’s problems for ages, and people have been protesting about immigration issues for ages, the politicians (all flavours) know this, many of the protests have been non violent and therefore not of media interest. Violent attacks are dealt with in a particular way by politicians and media, the mental illness card has been over used, as we can tell by the Huw Edwards case.

Starmer and the political/institutional establishment have to lay the blame in these riots solely at the “far right” thugs, because otherwise they will have to unwind some of the complex problems relating to immigration and expose the political/institutional establishment to criticism. So like scandals in the past the truth will be suppressed, and we continue on a well travelled road of deceit and misinformation by the political/institutional establishment. That is how politics works in this country these days.
So what is the solution?

No, tbh, it's not really a pub these days, it's the Emerald club on Southgate Playing field.
The Arora Hotel is the one close to me that has asylum claimants. Unfortunately, the Holiday Inn on the square about is being targeted for a demonstration on Friday, that is near the Moonraker. Hopefully enough people will be seen to have been dealt with by the law by then, that either no one shows, or those that do, don't kick off. However a counter protest is also planned and likely that both sides will wind each other up, or kick off at Three Bridges or on the trains as groups arrive.
I used to work with a guy that from
memory ran the Emerald for a few years, Cliff?

Assume it’s the same place as he used to run an Irish club in Crawley somewhere

This video is a corker for showing the stupidity of some.

Ah that explains it - I'd seen the same incident from side-on, and it looked like a body came out of the bin!

Well I'll see you two wednesday night

Except we all know I won't, because you'll be sat behind your keyboards. Sadly, those trackie stained 'protesters' that actually turn up on Wednesday night probably deserve more respect and that is a fairly low bar
WTF are you on about see you Wednesday? If your going on some March/protest/ demo etc on Wednesday then fine but why don't you do it peacefully rather than sitting behind a keyboard trying to wind up people who may have different views to yours?

Same as I've heard. Why Queens Road?

I understand that the 'target' on Queens road is a law firm which has represented Asylum seekers. The anti rally is arranged for half an hour earlier, I'm guessing in the hope that by the time a couple of dozen feral scum turn up, the Law Firm and surrounding area will be full with thousands of peaceful anti protestors making any attack on the firm impossible.

I'll let you know what happened tomorrow night. I am hoping and expecting nothing to happen, other than Buses not being able to go up Queens road for an hour

Because it appeared that you were trying to justify what these feral scum have been up to. If not, I unreservedly apologise and would welcome you along Wednesday to peacefully show your disgust at what they've been doing

I don't take sides, I like to listen to all sides and draw my own conclusion. At the moment I see good and bad on all sides but my biggest fear is at one of these protests/ demo's/ or riots as they are being called somebody from one side or another will be killed. If (and hopefully not when that happens) then it's going to be very difficult to stop all out war between various factions.

It was the Emerald Irish Social club, now Emerald Sports and Social, originally was a pub called the Greenkeeper. The building mostly houses equipment for maintaining the football pitches and cricket strips, the bar is about a 3rd of it.
Irish friends of mine avoided it as it they felt the clientele were a bit too Republican, back in the 90's.
I wouldn't know the names of anyone who ever ran it or drank there regularly.
