I personally always thought he was fairly average. Who would you drop from our team then?
We've given runs in the side to White, Gross, Macallister, and Moder in midfield this season. Alzate has played there too. Granted injury has cost him, but I don't see why he wouldn't have featured more. He was part responsible for turning the game after he came on at half time v Wolves and was very good at Man City away.

He's started twice in 33 league games. It's a bit weird.

I was thinking about Davy just the other day, I really like him as a player - we share hair, and I always thought he was on a different wave length to the likes of Maupay with his vision and sexy through balls. It's odd as he seemed key to our plans during a good run of games at the start of GPs tenure... indeed in our narrow defeat at Anfield that season he was arguably the best player on the pitch... Yep, if he goes, well I think its a mistake tbh.

I'd like to see him start against Leeds in a more advanced role, but AL seems to be flavour of the month in spite of offering a similar return in nearly every aspect of his game...

I guess, them's the breaks.

Is the hair sharing a postal thing?

Not for me, yes he has cool hair and likeable, but as a player always found him distinctly average and inferior to all those players you mentioned. Slow, gives the ball away a lot (not good in GP’s style), not great with one touch passing, can’t head, doesn’t score, doesn’t make goals. I seem to remember a couple of games where he was directly at fault for goals, since then he never really worked his way back to the team.

I too watched all our Hughton games and Davy and Dale were one of the weakest CM partnerships in the league IMO. And a key reason why we could never keep possession against the top sides.

He’s now facing competition from Biss / White / Moder / Moises / Lallana / Gross / MacAllister... no way in hell he gets ahead any of that lot. And that’s assuming we don’t sign anyone else.

Great pro, good attitude, cool guy, but not a very good PL player IMO and had his day.

Let's compare him to Bissouma;

In terms of scoring goals, Bissouma has scored 2 goals in 81 PL games, Propper 2 in 107.

In terms of making goals, Bissouma has 0 assists in 81 PL games, Propper has 7 in 107. Last season, Propper averaged 2 shot creating actions per game, this season Bissouma averages 1.62 shot creating actions per game.

In terms of giving away the ball a lot, on average Bissouma gives possession away once every 44 passes, Propper once every 43 passes.

Now, i'm not saying Propper is better than Bissouma but he's clearly not 'not very good'.

Right time if the deal is fair money wise. €10M euro or £8M sounds about right. Clearly slipped below some very young players with big potential in the manager’s ranking but am certain keeping him around this season was the right thing to do. Move on with thanks and blessings all round.

Be good to get that sort of money back .

Never really produced . Had the odd bit of class every 4 or 5 games where he would ping a lovely couple balls with the outside of his foot but masked a lot of the very average . Never really bossed any games and was pretty frustrating overall .

Good deal for everyone . Wish him well though

It is odd that he's barely played this season, given our struggles.

Bissouma and Lallana are probably our best performing players this season. Gross has looked refreshed in multiple games and MacAllister has been in form and Potter clearly rates the flexibility of Moder. Hard for Davy to be ahead of those - and he’s also struggled with injury. Alzate likewise has had a patchy 2nd season. So not odd.

Classy player, has done an excellent, under rated job for us in the PL. How anyone can say he's 'not a very good PL player' is beyond me.

But for him and us, it probably is time to move on and this seems like a sensible move. What is interesting is looking at his stats at PSV before again - 22 goals and 20 assists in just 89 games. I appreciate that was in a weaker league but that is really impressive and it does also show how he has had to adjust to a different position as well as league in his time here.

Very good player for us and if he does go, will always be grateful for his contribution and wish him all the best.

Worth resharing one of my few player stories now I think.

Watching a pre-season game from the front of WSL, and Dp is warming up. He stops by us to do some impressive stretches. the guy sitting a couple of seats away takes the opportunity to get some clarity on an issue that bugged us all in the early days. "Just how do you pronounce your name?" the fan asked. Our boy, cool as you like, looked up, and without a hesitation said "Davy". Class, wit, astonishng hair. Glad he's been part of the story. Ignore what the revisionists now try to tell you, he was essential in the middle of the park during our first couple of seasons in the Prem.

Agree with those saying that if someone is willing to pay us money for a senior player who is down the pecking order we should take it.

Davy has had some wonderful games for us, but some poor ones as well. GP clearly wants to bring through Moder.

Look at the way Moder can receive and play out of a tight space, (backheels up the line etc) . That's what GP wants. Now Davy can play a technically brilliant 20 yard pass when he has the freedom of the pitch but struggles to protect it when he receives it from he keeper with his back to the pressing players. Not a GP player I don't think.

I always get the impression that a few one here rate him higher than they should as they're sexually attracted to him

But him and Bissouma are two different types of players.

Bissouma sits deep, breaks up opposition attacks and instigates transitions to attack.

Propper, generally sits centre mid and looks to create chances - he was never ever a defensive mid or a box-to-box before Hughton. He played that way as a result of Hughton's style of play. In which case, even Glenn Murray played a defensive role.
