20/20 should be the blueprint for our future young stars

but look at the drama of the last England v New Zealand Test match. That was just as good as any 20/20 game, but took 4 days to complete. England were dead and buried, and pulled it back (normally its the other way round)

That game need patience and careful slot selection, not your smashing the straight balls and reverse sweeping full tosses

Agreed when you get to adult level! BUT getting young people interested in watching and playing is paramount at the moment, so we can be more competitive in the future.

20/20 is the way forward for the youth to get into the game and the coaching should then place the emphasis on the shot selection etc

I think we should leave almost everything as it is.

The only thing that could be changed is that the leagues could consist of 8 teams and there could be 4 divisions, making it possible for the minor counties to compete and save clubs like Glamorgan from losing every week.

Maybe. When I was growing up as a kid, I played Cricket at Colt level, from memory the format was Thursday nights, 20/20.

Each bowler got 4 overs, and batsmen had to retire once they reached 25.
From memory we played all over Brighton, and I dont think one astroturf pitch was used.

My school had an astroturf strip put in, but in my whole time at secondary school, we played 1 game of cricket against another school, and kwick cricket was used twice in PE

That is a good format to help develop the entire team giving all the bowlers the same overs etc.

The government need to sort the curriculum out properly so that we come into line with a lot of foreign countries!!!

My brothers kids in Sweden do an hour of sport per day at school and that starts at 3-4 years old.

The way to do it has got to be to follow those who have the most successful record in producing excellent cricketers; and in recent times that has been, hands down, Australia. So I think we should merge the counties into 6 regions. However, I'm sure it'll never happen as there would be far too much opposition from the counties.

I've just had a look in the atlas.

Australia looks to be a bit bigger than England, and has a smaller population.State Cricket is the stand out answer to this.................but in England?

Good old South East Counties by the Sea?

It's clear WHY state cricket has been the way forward for Australia. The point is, though, it WORKS. Players playing state cricket play 10 games under immense pressure, playing against the 55 other best players in the country.

If a similar system was ever bought in in this country, you could have the secondary (and below) levels playing in smaller geographical areas, so there would still be cricket available to watch.

Of course no-one likes the idea of their county disappearing, but it can work. Look at Welsh Rugby Union, where they got rid of the old sides and bought in regional teams. It has had it's problems, but people have slowly picked up on supporting the regions, and the quality of players and rugby has increased.

"A three conference County Championship of north, south and midlands"?

WHAT?

That would mean that Lancashire could NEVER beat Sussex. That's just plain WRONG. Lancashire DESERVE to beat all the small clubs.

six regional sides would be WANK

i got into cricket by going to sussex games - if there were six regional sides, the likelihood would be our 'local' side would be playing in southampton, which would mean that lots of kids from sussex will miss out on getting to see professional cricket

Why would that be? Obviously you would need to rotate where the regional side plays it's home games, some at the Rose Bowl, some at Hove, and the rest of the time Grade cricket would be played at hove.

20/20 looks here to stay, the 50 over competition full one-day matches are here to stay so it's goodbye to the 40 over competition IMHO.

As for reducing 4 days mathes to 3 dayers I don't agree because of the weather. We need spare time built in to give the best chance of a decisive outcome. It is for this reason I'm in favour of keeping tests as 5 dayers.

My biggest beef is the fact there are still 18 counties. The split into 2 divisions was a sop to the counties and hasn't create the "elite" division that was proposed.

There are too many average players still eeking out a career in county cricket, and the competiition for places and intensity of the competition just isn't there. The 1st XI of pretty much every county picks itself.

The problem is by getting rid of counties you're getting rid of history but there needs to be a balance struck between that and the future of cricket.

The logical mergers would be Derby and Notts, Leics and Northants, poss Warwicks and Worcs but it's difficult to see how that will happen other than by throwing money at it.

The 40 over stuff should be stopped. 50 overs is the standard for international one day games so keep that and ditch the Pro40 that quite frankly seems to serve not point.
As for mergeing the counties...f***. Right. Off.

Well said that man!

Also id like to add that the Six regonal sides thing would be a farce imho. I thought the IPL was bad enough but I dont want franchising in English Cricket thank you.
