Proof Andy Naylor is a lemon.

This is what Naylor said to me in Jan when I suggested CMS.

"A lot of what you read on NSC is tosh. You do wonder sometimes what planet people are on when you see some of the names mentioned and people claiming to be 'in the know'. NSC has its place as good knockabout fun for fans but, if you want authentic info, I think The Argus is your best bet."

With editorial responsibility shifted down to Southampton shouldn't it renamed the Meridian Argus ?

he should have kept his 'mouth' shut on twitter yesterday.
I think that's the point. NSC reported the story half an hour before Naylor said he was going somewhere else - given he'd just come back from hols, and NSC wouldn't be your first source for reliable info, that's not a lot of time. He really should have just kept quiet until he had a better understanding of what was going on.

The real Andy Naylor is as sound a journo as you'll find on any local paper, and better than many of the flakes in the national press, I can tell you from experience. One slip over CMS doesn't change that. I remember when Mourinho left Chelsea - I was in a press room full of national journos, including several who were being paid a large amount of money specifically to keep their noses pressed up against Chelsea's arse. And you should have seen the shock on their faces when the news broke. Not a single one of them had had any inkling of the biggest football story of the season at that point.

The fact is that top clubs guard information very jealously these days, and it's a measure of Albion's increased professionalism (which is something we all admire, yes?) that less is seeping out. At their end, anyway ...

every journo makes a mistake every now and again - just seems that whenever naylor makes one, he gets totally crucified

all a bit over the top really

I think Naylor is ok really, and I don't understand his vilification on here. The Albion reporting is the only reason I buy The Argus.

He did make that declaration about CMS going elsewhere about an hour after Talksport Adrian Durham was saying it was nailed on that he'd come here and this place was in meltdown. Good to see he had his finger on the pulse

I'm not bashing Naylor at all.

It must be difficult to keep a balance between churning out some exciting Albion related copy continually, but also not pissing the club off to the point they turn their back on him and freeze him out.

But yesterday was very funny: most of the Western world are talking about CMS signing for us and Naylor suddenly pipes up with him going somewhere else. No retraction (there wouldn't be, would there?) and then suddenly Naylor plays the same game as everyone else.

Seriously when reading through that mammoth thread yesterday, the point Naylor came out with that is when I went from thinking CMS was 40% gonna sign to 80%+

Durham was the man in the know on this, as he is a Posh fan and not afraid to share his info on Twitter.

Interestingly, he has also said:

- SCC made a 'joke' offer
- WHU bid £1m more than us and so PUFC were desperate for him to choose there (this is amazing!)
- Wolves and Brum were also in for him
- That we are a bigger club than LCFC, QPR (but not WHU)
- Poyet a much better manager to play for than Allardyce

(this may all be 'fixtures' (if so apologies) but there are too many CMS threads to keep up with).

Combined with Barry Fry's comments, PUFC come out of this with much credit.

Well he IS employed by them, h'd hardly say anything else, like "Actually NSC is a very good source of Albion info and you don't need to buy our paper or access its site..."

Occasionally I come across an old "Argus" to chuck out and its quite funny to read all the one-day headlines on the back-page linking albion with this player or that.

But having thought about it, not surprising. How many FL clubs now have a DAILY paper supporting them as opposed to a weekly, or a weekly and a freebie (like, say, Palace?) The nationals don't cover one team in depth obsessively - well maybe ManUre - but they would lose sales if they spent as much time on one club as the "Argus" do.

So every day virtually the "Argus" staff have to come up with some copy on Albion to attract the eye, and boost sales. Small wonder sometimes - err - they get it wrong.Would you rather they ignored the club?

I can't imagine he spends his day listening to talksport on the off chance there might be something related to us on there.
