Visually it is absolutely stunning. There's enough meat in the plot to make it more than a popcorn night out. That's not to say it's flawless but I'm thinking minor niggles only. Well worth the price of admission.
Pretty much agree with this. Good news though as it seems there aren't any health and safety regulations in the future, especially when visiting a different planet and the artifacts you discover! The biggest hole for me was the lackadaisical attitude to it all.

Looked very impressive, but I was disappointed. I've read that the scriptwriter was the same guy who wrote Lost, and that's probably why so many of the characters did some completely unbelievable, stupid things and why so many interesting things were introduced and never addressed.

I thought it was very enjoyable, albeit massively flawed. The plot does not hang together at all, things happen for absolutely no reason, the characters are UNBELIEVABLY stupid (especially given that they're all supposed to be scientists), they just don't act or react how people in real life would, the script is pretty dreadful in parts and the whole thing seemed quite rushed (as if massive chunks had been left on the cutting room floor). There was almost nothing in the way of character development or setting the scene at the beginning, it was just one scene on earth then straight away, they're in space on the mission.

Having said all that, I enjoyed it a great deal - you just have to disengage your brain and enjoy the spectacle!

Visually OK, but what a terrible film... crudely drawn characters (like early Star Trek it was pretty obvious who was going to get it first), massive plot holes, unbelievable complacent and contradictory behaviour from the crew, cod philosophy, really disappointing. I was expecting something to make you think, but it was just a blood, guts and gore horror sci-fi, with no depth. The only thinking afterwards, was incredulity about some of the holes in the plot.

I think it sets up the sequel to the prequel, the next one can be far better and take story in a whole new direction ie: the space jockeys rather than alien

Surely there's not gonna be a sequel to this starring Noomi Rapace's character - she'd only have the Fassbender to talk to, and I doubt the 'engineers' will want to have a chat and a cup of tea.

I really enjoyed the film. It had its flaws, but looked visually stunning, and I didn't think the storyline was as bad as some people are making out.

Ha ha nice resume. The more I thought about this film the worse it got. Completely forgettable.

Oddly, the more I think about the film the better I regard it. As long as people don't expect a direct prequel to Alien, and understand this is not set on the same planet as Alien, it's a great, visually outstanding movie. I might go and see it again this weekend.

The first 5 minutes were fantastic and I thought it was going to be epic but after the ship has landed it took on a deja vu feeling and you can see that Ridley was involved in Aliens v Predator with the 'Pyramid' full of underground passages plot again, rather disappointing. Script is a bit lame and factually incorrect (especially when Therzon states that she hadn't come half a billion miles 'cause she wanted male company - with the nearest star being many 'Trillions' of miles from Earth she wouldn't even have made it to the edge of the solar system!!)

The setting of the ship (in Iceland/Wadi Rum with CGI added, I think was impressive and the 'Human' engineers too but overall too predicable, could have been a classic but you can bet the studio wanted monster fights etc which reduced it to 'another' space romp.

David the robot was excellent and Idris Elba as the ship's captain good but the female lead was not a patch on Sigourney and most of the others forgettable, even 'blondie', who did look good in a very tight suit.

Interesting to see if they let him do a follow up, I think it's 50/50, not one of Ridley's best.

Saw this yesterday with my son and we left the cinema satisfied but no more than that. The problem for us lied in the fact that during production Ridley Scott had promised to 'terrifiy' audiences and that viewing would be in parts 'uncomfortable' and 'horrifying.' It was none of these and was no more scary than an average episode of Dr Who. It needed the 18 certifcate status we had initially been told it would have. Even the operation scene was tame stuff. As for the storyline.............

Stayed out of this thread until I'd seen it. I really enjoyed it, but I enjoy a grand setting and don't mind a slow pace. I didn't care much for the very ending, but enjoyed the robot character immensely.

Saw the film on Wednesday afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm wondering now whether the last film of this trilogy will actually be the prequel to Alien

Visuals superb, certainly gripping, but the dialogue (which was so believable in Alien(s) was very unrealistic.

I completely agree with this, I really enjoyed it at the time and now looking back I do believe it was a great film - not as great as Alien, but still.

You're right that it's trillions, but I think that's more down to her character not being one of the scientists (or pilots) and so just getting it wrong, rather than the scriptwriters not knowing...?
