It's easier than you think. All the broadcasters, newspapers have something already to go with the very famous individuals as they get very old.

I worked for a music channel years ago and a had a Frank Sinatra obituary ready to on the shelf before he slipped away.

This, there are " Oven Ready " ( sorry Boris ! ) obits for most of the great and good in this world. Obviously there isn't one for Boris, just a list of dependants.

Oh, I just posted something to this effect. Thought this might be the case. Suppose it makes a lot of sense. Heard a rumour about tv news presenters must always have a black tie to hand in case queenie dies.

Except for Jon Snow who will wear a HILARIOUS spinning Bow Tie...

Aside from the old folks do they have some ready for car crash ' most likely to' celebs? If so I'd have one ready for Katie Price!

I was asked to do a Serena Williams obit when she had a funny turn a few years ago. They leave nothing to chance. I did Dave Sexton and Sir Bobby Robson well before they finally went.

Can you imagine the uproar on here if one of the more colourful posters on here had started such a thread [emoji849], I think the OP is getting away very lightly at present.

The Sinatra programme sat there for weeks. Anyone who has done anything like that knows you have to give these things a unique material id.

But I wasn't allowed to, couldn't be entered into a system - not even as "to be announced". So I stuck a post-it on it that said "do not move".

Anyway Sinatra died, the telephone call came through to process it and (having already prepared my response), I said "how sad, I'd better start spreading the news".

Caller just responded - "yeah, will you do that ?"

I was gutted.

I’ll see your Serena Williams, Bobby Robson and Dave Sexton - I had to annually update the Queen Mother’s obituary for a number of years... but wasn’t in that job when she eventually did die!

You know, it could be true. If indeed he has passed on I seriously doubt the Crown would choose to release the news today, for many reasons - some obvious, perhaps.

If indeed this has come to pass, I would expect any announcement direct from the family and in their own time. Today would not be a good day to break this deeply personal and heart breaking story for one family. I suspect any news would be forthcoming days after the actual event.

That’s how i’d want it, the world can know when we’re ready for the world to know.

(Kind of thing.)

Bonkers how many people on this thread make a living this way! Must be quite interesting?

Change the thread title, bit disrespectful to post someone has died unless there is concrete evidence surely? Some people do anything to pretend to be ITK on here.

I was in the home at Colchester that day, supporting the one man team ( who was injured ) Half masts on all the churches in Suffolk where I was staying.

I think that probably happened in days of yore. I just can’t see how in today’s world it could be kept secret that long. A sneaky footman here. A sneaky receptionist there. All carrying smart phones. All desperate for a Scoop. Just like the OP... Nope, pretty sure Reuter’s likely be last to know these days!

Your sauce is bad and it should feel bad.

Hang on. We’ve since discovered it was likely caused by a misprint by The Sun. Not exactly malicious gossip. Just Britain’s most popular newspaper.

I’m pretty certain the royals don’t read NSC. They prefer Reading FC

But my dear Portlock, these are the days of yore! Good old 1854.

These carrier pigeons really are broad backed and super-fast, to carry so many wordingtons verbose and vast.
