There is a difference between banning him entirely (which actually no one has done so far on this thread as far as I can see, and suggesting that he is not afforded a state visit, which is what the petition is asking Parliament to debate.
It is really not tricky to understand.

The US Celebrity Apprentice is currently running on BBC 1. Was unable to attend the protest today as I'm currently literally blind out of one eye after an operation last week (squinting ridiculously to type this now!), but would have gone down otherwise.
People protest for their own reasons, but for me it's about showing solidarity with people the world over rather than expecting the protest to 'change' Trump (or May's) policy. I've got a friend whose British Iraqi and brother lives in the US- he has now had to cancel his flight next week as he visited Baghdad in the summer as so is supposedly a risk, even though he has lived in the U.K. all his life.
So agreeing with the protest for me is a personal and political stance against a divisive policy and divisive man.I would imagine the vast majority at the protests across the country went because they wanted to show their dissatisfaction with Trump and support those who this banning affects most directly. That Niemoller quote seems especially apt to me.

You sound a bit too sensible to on this board. Unfortunately, the reality is Trump way of doing things will be popular with an insular and neurotic America. Many are loving what he is up to right now.
