Pretty Impressed By How Bristol City Tried To Play Tonight

Have to say I was pretty impressed by how Bristol city played the game tonight. It was like holding up a slightly distorted mirror to ourselves. They played the ball sweetly on the ground, showed at least as much ambition as us going forward, and were only let down by a couple of defensive howlers. Which is pretty much reflected in tonight’s post-match table. They’ve actually scored one more league goal than us, while shipping TWENTY more than us. We’ve seen far worse teams at the Amex this season. IMHO, like.

It's not difficult to have seen worse teams when Barnsley and Bolton played the way they did!

I was thinking the same thing. It was like watching a worse version of us. At least they tried to play a bit of football, unfortunately for them they seem to be shithouse at defending.

Fresh from the back of an excellent win on Saturday saw them have 1 shot at goal, little pace in the side, no penetration and some woeful defending.

League 1 outfit. So they can knock the ball about the back? Hoorah.

Probably the best team I've seen at the Amex this season.

Àt least they tried to play a bit and had a go, probably why they lost 2-0.

Never thought they were going to score though. That shot that hit the bar was a total shock when it came, & the only other bit of quality in the penalty area came from Danns, when Greer blocked at the far post.

They offered absolutely nothing up front, and I can't help feeling they were only able to fanny around passing the ball like they did because we were already two goals up by that point.

Most teams at this level can keep the ball and go nowhere with it. Bristol City were fantastic at it, without ever threatening. Adomah delivered absolutely nothing but looked dangerous, and that was it. The sum total of their attacking threat, one player who made no real impression against Marcos Painter.

Bristol City were pathetic. It was so easy to contain them it's untrue, but it's so frustrating to watch us sit off teams like that and let them roll it around a bit until they get near the final third. It worked, with ease, and other than the long range punt which hit the bar, they had no hope of scoring.

Agree.

That crossbar effort was down to us - Bridcutt being too clever on the edge of his box. The block from Greer was worth a goal in itself, outstanding defending, just like the one in a similar position on Saturday.

They didn't create anything else.

The shot that Greer cleared off the line was followed immediately by another shot which Kuczszak had to push around the post for a corner.

Yes totally agree...possibly the WORST. Team bar Barnsley I've seen down here. Laughably crap in front of goal and dreadful in defence.

If we had NEEDED to win by 3 or more goals I don't think it would have been too difficult.

Last night was like a pre season friendly.

Yup - good for them that they play nice passing football rather than hoof it up to some absolute lump like many teams do - but they were the easiest side to defend against all season, no penetration whatsoever and looked genuinely ok with losing 2-0.
