[Albion] Premier League: your feelings after 3 years?

I've compared this with our 4yr tenure in the old Div 1. First game at home to Arsenal hammered 4: 0. Standing on Hove station shell shocked but we survived for 4 seasons, when a trip to Wembley cost us dear. This time around I think we can stay for longer. Saturday was a lesson in how it should be done and I read somewhere basically what was the difference between us, was 200 million pounds worth of players. A very apt description I feel. So onwards and hopefully upwards and a more stable position.

I find i'm less interested these days. No single reason why but all the "glitz" is certainly something I don't like.

Overall I've not enjoyed it. BUT as you say the days where we beat the big teams are lovely, but of course it's always because THEIR performance has dipped.

Personally I look forward to the games that matter v the bottom 10-14 far more than the games v top teams. They are basically Championship games pretending to be Premier League. We all know it. As Alan Partridge would say "they've re-badged it you fool".

I never thought I'd say this but I would not be adverse to there being a Premier A League and a Premier B League. Let the big boys go and play with each other.

If you had asked me this time last year I would have said that it had been mainly a grind with just a few outstanding moments. The occasional home result against a ' big ' club and some fine performances against West Ham and Palace. Quite a few awful away trips such as Huddersfield and West Brom.

This season has been much more enjoyable. Almost all games have been easier to watch even when mistakes have caused frustrating results. The player pool is much more exciting.

If we can stay up this year then next year looks much brighter again. Hopefully we will maintain and improve our performances and not let points slip away as we have this year. Then we can reach mid table safety much earlier in the season and be able to enjoy subsequent games even more.

For me, the recent Liverpool game captures some of why we want to stay in the Prem. It was a free hit because there was little expectation of any points and ( hopefully ) we could afford to get none. Of course the first ten minutes were a pity but we played good football and were also able to appreciate the skills of the opposition. It was simply an attractive game of football which was only possible in the Premier League.

Look at Stoke. They kicked on and finished ninth three seasons in a row. And where are they now?

For all but half a dozen clubs - maybe seven if you include Everton - the only certainty is that eventually they will have a bad season and go down. Leicester, Sheffield United, Wolves, Palace, Southampton - it will happen to them all. We are no different.

Enjoy it while we're here. And then enjoy the Championship again.

I second that, you can fast forward on TV but when you attend a match with one man up and our possession is mainly in our own half then you have to feel that for entertainment and attacking football then the Championship is a good option.

I suggest you f**k off back to the Palace forums you sad sack. The key to being successfully undercover on here is to ease yourself in gently, don’t blow your wad all at once, and do make the occasional positive post about BHA, it doesn’t have to be overdone or too gushing, just something like: “Lamptey played okay last night. I cant believe Palace were in for him and we got him from under their noses for £3m”

Also, choose a less obvious username, something that will go under the radar.

And lean to punctuate. I imagine you’re still in the Croydon school system. Does your English teacher teach you nothing?

Mixed feelings. I have enjoyed visiting grounds that BHA haven’t played at for years, I also still love going to the AMEX but that would be true in any division. Bizarrely I miss trips to the likes of Hartlepool, Chesterfield and Shrewsbury. They were great days out with much lower expectation from the football. Perhaps the biggest negative influence of the PL is not in the stadium (which still has the same old pie and pint routine as has been the case since the beginning of time) but here on NSC. I can’t quite get my head around the slating of players who have made a couple of mistakes and veered slightly from being world class. It all seems very play station/PL. I know it has always gone on but the degree of unhappiness and perfectionism in this division can be quite ridiculous.

After 30+ years as a season ticket holder including Gillingham, I am literally living the dream & loving every second of it. Yes, sure there are things you can moan about and I suppose asking the question after defeats to the elite teams may produce negative arguments. But who can really not enjoy beating Arsenal twice, Spurs, Man Utd (in previous seasons) and of course many special wins against Palace. Whoever prefers Championship football is off their trollies!!

I hate the Premier League and all it stands for - which is basically money. I’m not particularly bothered about players being “out of this world”, I just want a decent standard of football to watch and support my team. Too much money and too much tinkering with the rules and too long a gravy train.

It’s been stressful at times, desperately hoping that we can chisel out the odd point or three. Enough so that come May we stay up .... The highlights, of course beating Spuds, Arsenal and ManU. Not in the same sentence, several wins over a tiny club in Norwood.

The downside is clearly for me going into games against ManC (and Chelsea before they got lax just the once). A 95% chance of a loss and a very heavy loss. Modern football is shite in that department, the money gap colossal. It really didn‘t used to be as bad .... eg little old Brighton earned 6 wins and draws against European conquering LFC teams in the early 80’s.

Just now, optimistic and excited about the Ashworth and Potter team.

It’s not just the Premiership but football in general, which seems to have lost its way about what is a foul, what is handball, offsides, what really warrants a yellow card, a red card etc.
