In a bad flu season 25,000 people in this country lose their lives, over approx 4 months thats 1,500 people a week, society barely blinks an eyelid.

UK deaths as at 5th May 29 427
Amex capacity 30 750

We're getting close.
For some reason I find that significant as a way of visualising just how awful the UK death count has been.

I find that strangely reassuring, as apparently that is about the same amount of people that win life changing amounts of money on various things in England every year, and I don't know anyone who has...

Sadly you have not accounted for the deaths in care homes and people dying at home, the figure is more likely to be 55,000 +. The death toll is going to be considerably more with another 693 today.

The word 'could' never fails to impress.
You mean like 100,000 a day "could" have been tested but actually only 73,000 were?

Bet you were clapping like a seal when The Express announced (lied) that this government had hit it's own 100,000 testing target.

Football's return will be a huge boost to the country, even to people who don't like football. It will be a part of normality returning, even if the games are behind closed doors and there won't be an atmosphere, just there being football will be good for the country to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I had previously confidently predicted there will be Premier League football in May. June will be fine!

Wow! Did you fail to engage your brain when you made that statement ?
I have clearly misunderstand the question. As I read it, HWT said that there is no treatment for coronavirus, but presumably that wasn't what was meant because obviously people do get treatment. What am I missing?

There is no medicine or drug that can treat the virus, that is what HWT meant. Patients in hospital are being given oxygen and other than that it's up to the body's immune system to fight off the virus.

Nothing will be normal about football's return. Therefore the huge boost will be largely in the eyes of the TV companies and press.

In a bad flu season we don't mitigate the situation massively by closing down all non-essential businesses and imposing strict social distancing rules on the nation. Without these measures, the transmission rate would've been at least 3 and you could probably increase the deaths by 10 or more.

You got the media fear

The Conservative & Union Party, a libertarian/right wing/market driven government led by Boris Jonson initiated the closure of the UK economy
Seasonal flu rarely sees critical care professionals crying into cameras asking for help
The Spanish Flu and many pandemics do their worst in the second wave

Media ****ing fear is the least of all our worries (and I'm usually a half glass full bloke)
