For me, one of the big questions is how it affects the R value.

Thousands of people involved in getting PL games played - R value goes up, bad.

However, could having live games on TV keep thousands staying in longer, better mental health for some so less likely to break lockdown?

The supporters of the losing teams won't be experiencing better mental health.

Given that some are estimating 450-500 people are needed even for a behind closed doors game i would have to agree with you.

If it does restart in the near future I’d hazard a guess at least 1 team will have a few players go down with it and everything stops again.

And then what table is used if it doesn't re-start ?

The 29 game proper football table, or the 31 game '29 games of proper football + 2 silly behind closed doors games' table ?

I would. If football was back that would definitely be a positive for me. Even if we went down. Would love to focus on something other than COVID.

If all Premier League clubs lose roughly the same amount what disadvantage does it give any team? If each team loses roughly £30 million but it keeps the R level below 1 resulting in less deaths it has to be worth it.
It means that each club has £30 million less to splash out on future transfers. It will be the same for everyone, and therefore fair.

Not that I disagree with your point that £30m per PL club is less important than saving lives, the idea of it being a level playing field for everyone isn’t really true. Based on 17/18 data, £30m would equate to around 4% of Manchester United’s turnover but over 17% of Watford’s. Given how TV money has progressed since then, it’s probably closer to 30% now, plus probably another 10% or so lost through other revenue streams whilst games are suspended.

Clearly it’s going to affect clubs with less diverse revenue streams than those with large, hospitality rich stadiums and global audiences.

Yet again this government making public pronouncements to curry popularity with the killer all-encompassing caveat re: public health guidance. Gives the impression that football will be back soon whereas in reality they know damn well it won't.

As we’ve cycled past the different empty golf courses over the last few weeks, without customers or staff, I genuinely thought at the time that they looked so vulnerable to vandalism, the clubhouses vulnerable to arson. I think one or two sports pavilions have been burnt down by ‘pranksters’.

Beneath the vast majority who abide by laws, there’s always an undercurrent of scum in this country.

Just when numbers appear to be falling, I wonder if this will give the government reason to continue with lockdown measures. I wonder too, what affect this will have on decisions to resume football in the coming months
