Ok so nothing should be done until China stops having coal plants.

Feels like that could backfire a bit.
everything we do in UK is utterly pointless unless China reduce their emissions. we have already done more than most, cutting emmissions by 45%, and with a total contribution around 1% we could switch off everything, stop all economic activity and do nothing to affect the globe. that doesnt mean dont do anything, but we should stop wearing a hairshirt, because we are making ourself poorer for zero benefit.

But what about the 31,650 fans arriving at our stadium? So what about the 78,000 fans arriving at Old Trafford? Are we concentrating on the 50-odd key people that make these games a worldwide fascination?
thats a damn good point. looking at the team flights is pissing in the wind.

Impressive amount of whataboutery here. What would it take for that to change? Falmer under water? Brighton is the UK city most at threat from climate change.

Albion claim to be committed to environmental sustainability. They can at least set an example. Or not make that claim, if they’re not serious.
Isn't it just, quite remarkable - Most premier league clubs and the entity itself make a big deal about the climate but, as ever, actions speak far louder than words....

So the physical conditioning expert is saying that a team stepping off a 45 minute flight would be equally ready to play versus a bus journey to Manchester?
Genuinely, how much time do you think, for instance, Brighton would save on a trip to Old Trafford by flying? It's minimal and pointless.

About 4 hours each way. The M6 is horrendous.

Coach to Gatwick, board private jet, 45 minutes to Manchester, coach to hotel. Then reverse.

The physical conditioning expert in the article downplayed those advantages.

Perhaps we need to follow France and ban some internal flights.
Maybe we can finally find a benefit of Brexit?

Lets start with VAT on all private jets for domestic use. Aviation generally gets such an easy ride full stop, its essentially tax free. There isn't even tax on aviation fuel.

Pritti Patel flew from London to Manston. Liz Truss flew from London to Australia in private helicopters/planes.
It’s not as if planes don’t have first class.

Truss could easily have flown to Australia and block booked business class. For this distance taking a private charter is inexcusable, it cost £500k with hundred of tonnes of co2 emitted

What's worse she came back with a trade deal to condemn parts of our agricultural sector to a museum

It’s certainly not wearing-a-hair-shirt-for-global-warming which has made the UK a poorer nation.

Absolutely no chance, none. You don't just rock up and jump on to a charter flight at either of those airports and go!
Neither do they go through all the hassle that Easy Jet passengers do, like they used to 12 years ago or so. Admittedly this was Faro airport and we were all on the same plane.

Ban on flights <2hrs
Flights only for games within congested schedule (if you've a week between fixtures, that's plenty of time to get a train there and back)
For every flight the Premier League Clubs buy Carbon Offset Credits from companies who are Carbon Neutral or better.
Clubs with Carbon Neutral facilities (stadium, training ground, academy etc.) can use their own Carbon Offset Credits?

Stop being a prat. It doesn't mean nothing should be done, nor did I suggest that.

When industrial polluters are massively increasing carbon footprint, peopels ire and anger should be directed mainly at those main culprits, not soft targets who make tiny difference in grand scheme or glueing themselves to roads or train platforms etc.

If everyone stopped buying things from high pollution countries that would be far more significant than virtue signalling against footballers who often have to travel large distances with 2 games a week in one of most congested nations on this planet.

That's a pretty lazy argument.

China is actually do a quite a lot themsevles, besides we're a developed country that has a massive carbon deficit since we started the industrial revolution.

Our emissions have fallen largely because we outsource our emissions to China to make cheap stuff we can consume.

We need to take responsibility, we need to play our part, we need to lead by example. Like not opening new coal mines for a start...

Not pointless and we each need to take responsibility for our own actions. But globally its pissing in the wind until/unless major polluting nations change course...... China for instance relies on world to sell its stuff, there simply isn't enough pressure in the right places.

If everyone shot themselves in the head it would also be more significant, but is a solution almost as unlikely as 7 billion people deciding to take individual responsibility and not buy anything from countries with a lot of pollution.

The reason why there's a lot of pollution in China is because there's not a lot in Europe. We outsourced pollution. If we had continued to produce all the shit we consume from China, the pollution would still be here.

If we want peoples behaviour to change, virtue signalling is exactly what is needed. I really, really don't feel a single bit of empathy for the footballers despite the CRUELNESS of FORCING these multi-millionaires into travelling to a different city once or twice a week

It's astonishing that there isn't. There is full rate of VAT on all luxury supplies to my knowledge.
