Never know how accurate these are of course but every season the league table very closely resembles this table. Never ceases to amaze me how many fans (especially top 6 fans) fixate on transfer fees but this is always a much better barometer. Of course United and Chelsea are (hilariously) underperforming but otherwise it’s almost completely accurate as a predictor of final places within a few spots.

Capology is pure guess work I'm afraid. If you look at the numbers they're using apparently we've reduced our playing squad wages by £8m per season over the last two years... Absolute nonsense.

Below is the actual yearly wages for each club (reporting is over a financial year with 22/23 being the most up to date figures available).

In addition to the above information, Albion wages rose from £115m per season (or £2.2m p/w) to £127m per season (or £2.4m p/w) in the latest accounts - a 10% increase. A good comparison is Villa who went from £137m per season in wages, to £194m - a 41% increase from 21/22 to 22/23.

I hope to god we’re getting rid of both this summer. Lallana has been great but can’t run now and Milner has had one decent game all year. We obviously like having some older heads around but I’d have thought Dunk, Welbeck and gross could do that now. Surely need the wages for players who can actually play (and run about)

If all the above is correct, with Fati, Milner and Lallana being big wage earners, we have far too much wasted money warming the bench. Fati has been most hyped but disappointing player of the year for me.

My guess is because of where they came from… how much of a wage cut would they have been prepared to take ? Also when they come on a free isn’t it often the case that the wages can be higher because there was no transfer fee? I have no idea but I would suspect Lallana was our highest wage earner when he came

In Lallana's defence he's not just a footballer is he? He was the last man standing when Potter left (priceless) and he will be the leader again if Roberto leaves after the season ends.

He's our successor to Bruno and I'd worry if he wasn't at the club in some shape or form.

If you want to save money look no further than Fati and Milner.
