National Anthem before every game
Changing the length of the game to the rest of the world
TV timeouts
Rule changes from the rest of the world
World Champions when only North American teams are eligible
No promotion/relegation
Franchise teams

Yep doing sport well

All of this, America is where you look to see how not to do things, a land of caged children and mass shootings. They’ve been trying to push NFL/NBA over here for years, but they’re both pretty dreadful.

I’ve given both a couple of chances over the years, but between comical commentary and the points above, I’ve walked away firmly convinced that I’ve wasted my time.

Just because you don’t like them, many, many millions around the world do so they clearly do something right. NFL popularity has grown massively in this country, so much so there is going to be a London franchise. NBA has been popular for years here and I also believe there are a number of baseball fans actually on this site, again a hugely popular worldwide sport.

I’m not saying that football needs to completely copy them at all, they’re different sports with totally different backgrounds, that wouldn’t work as this ESL abomination proves. But they do do a lot right over there so I never understand the need to instantly criticise any idea that comes from America. Something like the Hall of Fame is a bit of harmless fun.

There is only talk of a London franchise, nothing concrete yet. In terms of popularity of NFL and baseball, surely the best measure is how many people actually play the sports over here rather than watch a bit on the telly. Americans don't understand the concept of relegation and promotion. The closest we have over here is cricket which for decades was also a closed shop. Even now there seems to only be promotion and relegation between two divisions rather than a proper pyramid.

Who do you think pays for stuff like this? It isn’t the people attending, I promise you.

As for “millions round the world think they’re aces” - millions of people think the Kardashians are great, I reserve the right to not join the fan club. To me, American values are utterly repellent, and I want less of them in my sport, not more. Just my opinion, but I’ll not be changing it.

I'm so glad football was invented in 1992. What did we do without it ?

I think that's absolutely right and I really like the concept of the PL Hall of Fame. There have been some amazing players and managers in the PL - I would like to see more recognition for the unsung players as well. Obviously, I'm thinking of someone like Lewis Dunk who hasn't done anything major to stand out on a national scale but who has been instrumental to the success of a football club over an extended period of time. This is a guy who started playing regularly for us when we were newly promoted to the Championship and has been a consistent right throughout the progression of the club and now as we're challenging for European places. Incredible rise and there are plenty of players who have made 200/300 appearances for one club in the PL era and they deserve a shoutout as well.

Great.
The bloke who started the devaluation of the FA Cup, the group intimidation of referees and openly tapping up players.
And
The bloke who won the EPL 3 times in 22 years at one of the richest clubs in the land when the only real competition was the other bloke.
take it you don’t agree then 😂
