I'd have agreed, until I saw the view of the incident looking up the pitch (from Schmeicals POV). Yes he was off balance and stumbling, but he threw his left leg out, away from the ball, to plant it on Fornals shin. It was snide, dangerous and deliberate.

Well done to the VAR (and I've RARELY said that).

I completely agree that that's what it looks like, him throwing his leg that way makes it look deliberate and why the red was shown. I just don't think it was deliberate, I think it was part a stumble and perhaps part he's trying to put his foot that side of the ball to shield the ball from the incoming player. The sheer speed they move at, when you look at it full-speed, I don't know how you can be accurate in where you're feet go - Fornals is coming in at pace as well.

Having said that, I believe that intent is irrelevant when it comes to the decision, so the red card is correct. But if I'm right above, and I don't believe Perez is a snidey player, then I can see why he'd feel aggrieved.

As others have said that’s Perez now suspended versus us which is good news as he has a knack of scoring against us going right back to his Newcastle days. Happy days.

As you correctly state, intent is irrelevant. It was certainly reckless, and under the current rules, that is enough for a red.

Be interesting to see what Brendan "Brent" Rodgers has to say about it. I expect he'll be bemoaning it.

Must admit I'm really rather enjoying this. Brendan Rogers is quite high on my "people I irrationally intensely dislike in football" list.

Just an observation and no dig at our strikers intended but it really has been the weekend of the target man. Lukaku and Antonio have been unplayable

Apart from the teeth, the tan, the accent and the infidelity, what's not to like? ???

Not really. Much better that than going quiet just because they're winning games.

Fair point.

Barber OUT!

Only kidding.

Or am I?

I've seen a few games this weekend and ours from WSU, I have to say apart from a couple I really believe our squad apart from missing a couple of players we all know about, we have little to fear.

I'll add also the beast of some of these forwards I believe we will be able compete defensively a lot better than many others
