No worries - I thought it might be something very local. I'm not sure I've ever had it myself, not hugely keen on split peas / lentils and so on.

My other half is from the old mining villages north of Hartlepool and lives on ham and pease pudding sarnies. I don't get it, it tastes of bugger all, can't stand it.

Pease pudding isn't - or wasn't - just a northern thing. When my old dad was a lad in Brighton (more than a hundred years ago!) among the fast food outlets available were establishments selling pease pudding and faggots (or just pease pudding if you were a bit skint).
