Yes, you do. We probably can't catch them, but we can stay ahead of United.
I am not so sure we can’t catch them. Granted you say probably but if United beat them and we can beat wolves again then it is only a five point gap and we play them again in a few weeks.

Is it me or does Bobb shout " football" at the crowd as he celebrates?

Correct. For several weeks he had several experienced first team players on the bench but would not rotate. Hoping the same thing happens to Villa tbh
i agree. If mcginn or Watkins are injured, villa are stuffed. They will implode at some point.

To be fair to Howe, just because they are on the bench doesn't mean they are completely match fit, might only be able to used for 20 minutes or so, so can't rotate.

He's be battered by injuries, I completely forgot they had Barnes.... but doesn't make it less enjoyable

So before VAR the linesmen never flagged incorrectly for offside ? If so then we don’t need it.
You need to view the match. It happened in the first few minutes. Newcastle player well offside, by a good yard or more. VAR is for when it's close and the lino is unsure so play on and check later, but here the player was clearly offside. So put up the flag rather than let play carry on and the goalkeeper getting injured.

I did watch the match. I think you are missing the point made by me and others. The implication of what you are saying is that linesmen do not ever mistakenly raise their flag for offside because they are sure the player is ‘clearly offside’ but it turns out they are wrong. If you are going to use VAR for offside you have to exclude that possibility hence the guidance to linesmen not to flag. Proponents of VAR (including managers and pundits) cannot have it both ways.

I've only got 30 minutes in the office doing the wages.
Linos do make mistakes, that's why we now have VAR, and for those 'maybe' situations the lino keeps his/her flag down, trusting VAR to get it right. But in a situation like Saturday where the player was so clearly offside then that's when they need to flag. He put his flag up after the incident saying it was offside and VAR don't check that as no goal was scored. So he must have known it was offside because he put his flag up.
So for 10 seconds or so the lino knew it was offside and that he was going to flag, but didn't because he's told not to.

I was talking about the likes of dummet, Kraft, Ritchie etc. obviously not as good but when players are running on empty you have to use them otherwise there is no point having them. The match I thought they really messed up was against spurs. They should have tried it then to give them a better chance in champs league. As it is they lost both.

They have had lots of injuries but not rotating could be a reason. We played matches without a specialist full back or winger on the pitch.

The best moaning I have heard is spurs saying “we have no choice but to play 4 full backs as no centre backs” while 50 odd cap Dier who has now gone to Bayern Munich is on the bench!

Although in truth Newcastle have used the most players this season in the premier league. Perhaps their injury list really is that bad

(They have used 30. We are 6th with 27. Arsenal, West Ham, Luton, Liverpool And Wolves bring up the rear with 23)
As with most stats, it can be quite misleading. With a game already won you could waste time bringing on someone new for the last couple of minutes, but that's not the same as having a bare bones squad.

I think there is also something (I'm not sure how much) to the idea of not framing things around the fear of an injury occurring. How often do we see such things happen v how often we are seeing seemingly obvious on/off sides being being incorectly called. City have been unfortunate in having two injuries, but how many times has this happened over the past 4-5 years v how many supposedly obvious offside decisions have been overturned in that same period?

It was hardly the game of the season, despite the brilliant goals. Tbh, Newcastle were never in it. Man City totally dominant.

Define ‘so clearly.’ That’s important when explaining to a Lino how to implement this system. If linesmen make mistakes like you say then they can make mistakes in their interpretation of ‘so clearly ‘ (or ‘blatant’ as someone else said earlier in the thread). You are right that he eventually flagged because he thought it was offside but the whole point of the late flag is to enable VAR to pick it up if he mistakenly flags.
