Snow was one of the main reasons we booked. Keep it coming! Cheers again for your advice.

Dave- Me and the missus went up the communications tower (with the freaky babies on the side!!) that was a pretty decent view.

Been on 2 stag do's - My first visit in 2003, stayed at that old prison - ulbritas? something like that - £10 a night..gutted to see it had been closed down and converted on my next visit. Is the casino with the bar in it still open - right at the top of the main drag opposite the castle? very handy for a pint and to watch the sun come up

Its nice in winter, but loads better to wander round in the sun....

Having just read the New York advice thread, I'd thought I'd start my own on Prague.
Am off on Sunday, for 3 nights, 4 days, although flight home is midday, so 3 days really.
I appreciate it is not the biggest city. So far I have been told to visit:

- Old square
- The clock (obviously on the hour!)
- The castle
- The ice bar
- Jewish cemetery

Worth mentioning I'm going with the other half!

I have my heavy duty coat, gloves and hat ready...

Cheers x

Leave the other half behind

Lu7 ..yeah the Zizkov tower with David Cerny babies climbing up it...has the best view of prague as you cant see the Zizkov tower in the view haha..
Ive been once, but the windows were pretty grubby....think they cleaned it up recently...one of the most spectacular things ive seen in Zizkov was when they replaced the top 20 or 30 feet of the tower...absolutely HUGE Russian helicopter did the job...

Dont know which casino...by the castle in Mala Strana?

Brighton factually.....
Have they sorted out the shorts yet ?

When we went a few months ago, none of the bars or hotels would sell shorts due to people dying or something

Yeah that's all sorted now. Nowhere could sell spirits while they searched for the source of the tainted stuff, but I've had more than my fair share since.

Got back last night, and had a fantastic time.
It was the partners birthday on the Monday, so the heavy snowfall was perfect!
We did quite a few of the touristy bits, but ultimately sat in the warm drinking coffee/beer all day.
Cheers daveinprague for all your suggestions.
Also thanks to termy46. Having got all the way to the Cowboy steak house, they were having a private party.
We instead went to Kozicka Bar ("The Little Goat" in English) and it was fantastic! Our favourite meal.
I imagine it will be completely different in the Summer, but I can thoroughly recommend Prague in the Winter.

Youre welcome Sam...yeah Kozicka is decent, and the prices are fairly good there as well considering its location.
Sitting around in cafes and bars is part of the charm haha..glad you and your missus enjoyed yourselves.

You are very welcome. I'm planning another visit in June or July to see some Czech friends. It will be my 3rd time. Did you see the Russian dolls in the souvenir shops? I managed to get an Albion set when I was there! I got money off as I said that some of the players don't play for us anymore!
We have to beat Arsenal as he is an Arsenal fan and friend of Rosicky.
Kozicka is definitely on my list of places to go again. Glad you liked it!

Just returned from a long weekend and read over this thread before going to steal some advice!

Findings below:

Kozicka - absolutely brilliant steak. By far the most expensive place we ate but food was fantastic and location is great, just off the main square.

U Fleku - great experience with live music seemingly throughout the day. We popped in just after midday for some soup/beer and there was music on then too!

Mood Restaurant - Called something else (name escapes me) but is nextdoor to the mood hotel. Certainly the best burger I have EVER eaten, can't recommend it enough. Great prices too.

Jazzklub Ungelt Prague - had a great night here on Saturday. Prices more expensive than other places we were drinking throughout our stay (still very fairly priced) but was well worth it.

We stayed at the hotel Galileo which was also great, if a bit out of the way from the old town (25 min walk) but closer to new town area. Got a new wing to the building which is great and got a very, very cheap b&b deal.

Absolutely do NOT go near the english pub in the old town square if you can avoid it. Horrendously over priced, plenty of much nicer (and cheaper) boozers, you're absolutely spoilt for choice so avoid this place at all costs.

PS. Thanks to everyone for the info above, good to have some recommendations to go on!

I wasn't particularly inmpressed with Prague when we went there last January, but if you get the unlimited travel ticket it's interesting just sitting on the trams and seeing some of the areas further out from the centre.

I didn't see the attraction of the castle area at all.

Too many "red umbrella" groups everywhere.

We're going to go back to Budapest in future. Liked it much more........

Budapest is a wonderful city.

It won the best burger in Prague 2012 competition thats run by an American...its an outstanding burger...and yeah a bit more expensive, but well worth it..

'The Mood Classic Burger (225 CZK) is a newcomer on the scene. It comes from the kitchen of a veteran American chef. The burger includes sublime smoked cheddar, but they will add bacon for no extra charge. The top quality ground beef patty from a custom grind was hefty, wonderfully smoky from a lava grill, and just juicy enough. I asked for it medium and it was cooked medium. The beef makes or breaks a burger, and this patty's quality and cooking made it a star. It sits on top of lettuce, tomato, and mayo. As always, I wish those were not underneath. They now supply bottles of Heinz ketchup with their burgers and fries. The cheese was covered with perfectly crispy bacon. I was told the bun is custom-baked for Mood by a top Prague bakery. I love the crunchy curly fries that come with it. This burger is not cheap, but I think it is worth it.'
