They could have at least responded to numerous entreatments from established PPE providers with established supply chains.

I'm going to make an assumption here that the CEO of this company isn't a Tory donor.

Of course they could. And that brings us back to the question I posed earlier, did Hancock and friends take over all PPE procurement and ban any of his staff from having anything to do with it? Or was it incompetence all round? That's what above all they need a proper enquiry about, what was the government's policy?

I think the tories have reached the point where they are dead to me. I would put them on ignore but they are still in a position to f*** me and mine up the arse, so I will keep watching them. I'm ready, with my sword of truth and shield of justice. Unlike those of the last lying bastard to claim these tools as his, mine are real. The rats must be druv out.

That's the sort of reporting that's useful and factual. On the "Tory meltdown" thread there's just a load of rumour and speculation, but this is the sort of thing that we can get our teeth into.

If that report is correct then she's clearly a crook and should be sent into jail and bankruptcy. As for the ministers who didn't do the due diligence and research who was behind this company, and who didn't go through the proper (slow) procurement programme - that was always going to happen. We could have PPE quickly and expensively and with some of it faulty, or we could have it slowly or not at all via the usual channels. There were bound to be mistakes by the government and loopholes you could drive a bus through.

Feel like this is the end of the line for her now, the diversion tactics have run out and the FOI requests and enquiries have made this front and centre

I suspect the dark arts are in play now with rather a lot of other firms and individuals involved in similar schemes who are quite happy for her to be the fall guy, lessons learned, nothing to see here and forgotten

If someone doesn’t go to prison over this or at the very least large amounts of the money accrued is repaid to the public purse what hope is there for all of us?

They called it profiteering in WW2…..

This appears to be somewhat different, this company was already a provider to the NHS, saw what was coming and got orders in early, they took a gamble and it paid off. The piece says what the value of the orders were, but not what the profits on those orders were, but at £2B worth of orders, if they were making profit of just 5% that would put £100M in their pocket. Maybe they could have priced their supplies lower, and I don't like the option companies have to be registered in Jersey to avoid taxes, but I doubt that is the reason the Mail and The Sun are going after this couple, it's a distraction from the real fraud that was committed.
If this company raised prices due to demand, but did not have increased costs, we can accuse them of profiteering, the piece makes no such claim.
I personally would not allow companies registered in Tax Havens to be suppliers to the NHS, or any branch of Government, I doubt we will see that change under a Tory Government though.

Unfortunately Lenny, these aren't one off cases and this was a company that at least had a history of supplying PPE and wasn't set up specifically by family, friends or local publicans of Cabinet members, MPs, SPADS and financial backers of the Government. The whole 'fast track' set up was corrupt and if properly investigated would result in half the Government of the time (most of whom are still in Government) going to Prison.

It was all highlighted at the time it was happening but ignored. Look on the Covid sub forum

In 100 years time I think they will still look back on COVID as a significant episode in this countries history, unfortunately it will be as much about the greed and corruption than the poor people who lost their lives.

It’s all about idealism and realism Watford old boy, ideally you would think that ultimately everyone who ‘broke’ the law or seriously profiteered from Covid was brought to account, realistically there’s more chance of Shakey and Adam Ant taking a cover of “You’ve lost that loving feeling“ to the top of the Hit Parade.

Unfortunately speaking as someone who was at the ’coal face’ at the time, it was rife everywhere, we had reason to have to contact an occasional supplier when our normal one was having supply issues, before lockdown standard compliant body bags, the ones you were required to put all Covid Cases in, were around £14 per unit, they tried to put them up to £42 a unit overnight, funnily enough we don’t use them any more, and thankfully our normal man found new outlets to go to.

I agree with so much of that. Unfortunately, there are always people who will take the opportunity to display greed and corruption at the first opportunity, and the people in that article you quoted could possibly be accused of the greed part.

But far worse for me is when your own Government is responsible for setting up and managing the greedy and corrupt queue (which has since been found to be illegal) and ensuring that not only are they the first in line, but you have to have one of them as a contact to even get a place in the greedy and corrupt queue. Call me old fashioned, but I naively thought that in a worst in a century pandemic, they should be focused and acting in the best interests of the country and trying to keep the people of the country alive.

Although it makes me extremely angry sadly, as I think I have made clear since long before they were elected, I'm not in the least bit surprised by what this cabal does

FFS, its never ending..

New Tory Chairman helped land a £25m PPE deal for a firm linked to Mark Higton – then Chair of Hammersmith Conservatives – despite it having no experience providing protective equipment.

Absolutely disgusting. How do all these people sleep at night? How are there so many of them?
What I find incredible is its so blatant these people in our elected government exploited a period of nation crisis to line the pockets of donors and mates.

They knew it would come out but as we will see no one will be punished...

That is what upsets me so much about this government. The pandemic was treated as business opportunity for them and their friends, it is unforgivable, an act of national betrayal unparalleled in recent history in my view.

The other issue is government friendly media, if this was Labour the PPE Sandal would be on the front page, day after day after day. Just look at what the DM did over Starmer's non-event covid curry.

Absolutely. I'm no fan of Starmer but the false equivalence of that furore was utterly ridiculous. Even Starmer's Labour Party are held to different standards than this government.

The problem with the Conservatives is that there is just so much dishonesty, and yes blatant corruption the scandals are diluting themselves. There is so little time to pull apart each misappropriation of tax payers money, every law that they break, every ministerial code breach, every single lie that they tell and every single thing that they f**k up. The party in its current form is simply rotten to core run by dishonest charlatans and crackpots.

It's gone beyond having a difference of political opinion on how the country is run, to having a government that simply has no interest in running the country effectively but is solely concentrated on its own interests. It's no wonder that some old school tories no longer recognise the party that they used to represent them.

It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

So in a nutshell, a small company with no experience in PPE, that was introduced via the ‘VIP lane’ by a Tory peer, pocketed £20m+, failed to deliver, changed its name, and, on being sued, its offshore parent company conveniently went into liquidation.

What going on with the Mone situation?

I'm wondering when the Covid independent Enquiry gets onto this, the 'world leading' track and trace and the other methods of syphoning money from the NHS. The planned, organised, corruption endemic throughout the Cabinet when people were dying in their thousands will make Partygate look like a few drunken misjudgements. Let's not forget that the so called 'fast track' has already been proven to be totally illegal.

So who were the main players at this time ? Johnson, Sunak, Raab, Patel, Gove, Hancock, ably backed up by most of the current cabal, who have obviously 'moved on' and are now all about honesty and integrity
