But why Ji was the worst player on the pitch and mainly played in games we lost, it was a technicality only

Doesn't matter, Sunderland should forfeit the 1 point.
We had a similar experience a few years ago, we brought on Rui Fonte in the last few minutes in the last game of the season. We drew, but it was later flagged up we didn't have clearance to play him.
We were stripped of the point, dropped a couple of places, and lost few thousands on prize money.
Could be interesting if Sunderland stay up by a point.

Sunderland will not stay up by a point they will either get a miraculous run going or more likely will only pick up a couple of points

They are as good as relegated.

There's a storm brewing here, quite a few journos think Sunderland should be deducted quite a few points for this. Some even think it was a bit of a cover up by the FA.

Even Poyet is reported to have said what Sunderland did was wrong. Apparently Sunderland never even told the player what had happened and why he suddenly wasn't playing Poyet had to take him to one side and tell him why and that he had to go!

The Rules clearly state they should lose points not just a fine. The FA did their normal bungling and thought it wouldn't matter as Sunderland looked doomed and they didn't want to create an embarrassing position in a season that looked pretty certain then.

I'm only stating here what was said in the news and by the journos on Sunday Supplement so don't shoot the messenger but it sounded like the press were not going to let this pass by.

The inference was that if it was a lower league club there would have been a big deduction

Err no, he had a bagful of money to spend last time leaving our current manager with close on f all. He wouldn't have got us anywhere near the playoffs this season with the injuries we've had. In fact he would probably have walked a few months ago.

And Oscar has had MORE money than Gus ???

Bit harsh on Oscar, from what I read and heard we tried to get players in,a couple visiting the stadium, but we were priced out of the market....hardly Oscars fault is it.

Exactly, I feel the finger is being pointed at Oscar when it really should be pointed at Bloom if anyone. In fact I think Bloom should come out (come clean on the budget?) and be more supportive of Oscar, given the unbelievable flak he is getting recently.

Theoretically what we haven’t used budget wise this year, plus the Bridcutt and Barnes money, plus next year’s budget, and plus players leaving freeing up cash in the summer, it may show good foresight in sacrificing a season of austerity for summer spending when all the other clubs feel the pinch.

I would like to think that this was the plan whilst sorting out the muck from the brass. It's just unfortunate that we don't have much brass.

Nah, foresight would have been investing the Bridcutt and Barnes money in an attempt to get to the riches of the Premier League this season, we were well placed in January. Nobody is guaranteed promotion so holding it back for next season is just as big a risk as going for it this season imo

But we did try to get Grabban so we weren't holding back completely. If we could get the right player we would buy, and if not we would save the money until the next transfer window.

It really doesnt matter as unless we go on the run I mentioned above (which we wont) then we are down anyway

Who's really available in January though? of any real quality?

If its not there then don't blow it on crap, hold it for the summer.

Exactly. Very few players are available in January unless you're prepare to pay over the odds - Grabban was an exception as he had a transfer bid clause in his contract. We'll get far more for the more for the money made in the summer.

Quote on Bridcutt:

"few facts

we were 14th on feb 1st

since he has started, we have lost 8 out of 9 and are now 7 points adrift

there is no way that is a coincidence

he is worse than larsson and gardner, that says it all"
