Poyet's failure to sign a target man is a farce

Because there's nothing up front in the absence of CMS. All summer he spoke of a target man, and he failed to get one, for the third transfer window running. Embarrassing.

In which case I agree, but "Target man" is the wrong phrase. To me target man is just a big lump who wins headers and holds the ball up. CMS can't be classed as a target man, he's just a player who is good enough to be in the right position enough to be an outlet. The don't grow on trees and CMS cost us £2.5 mil.

Dobbie didn't do much tonight, I'd rather see barnes on his own as the spearhead of a 4-3-3

Barnes was not great tonight but he does not lead the line, he is best running onto the ball and finding space created by someone in front of him.

We missed CMS but ultimately you are correct they would all be better playing off someone who can lead the line and hold the ball up.

I wass not upset when Murray left as I assumed we would replace him with a better version, we did'nt!

I don't get our fans obsession with getting a target man. I've heard people banging on about this for about 7 years now, mabye it's been ever since Bobby left. Every time we lose a few games everyone goes on about it. It's not the answer, and especially not with a passing style of football.

You do need someone up front who is mobile and can get in positions to receive the ball often though, without CMS we don't have this at the moment.

I agree. It has become an obsession on here, much like the heralded "creative midfielder".

Does a target man guarantee points? Would our style change if we had one? Who are these target men?

and why has the team been poor?

Well if the attackers arent getting the delivery how else are they meant to actually score - thats been a big problem the last 2 games. Dobbie is just taking longer to settle in.

Poyet hasnt failed - it just hasnt had an immediate impact. I do feel a loan striker is needed as without CMS, we only really have Dobbie and Toby - that and if were are having scoring problems then it puts the fire up the arse of the current strikers.

Amazing how people are writing Dobbie off after TWO games - maybe after 5 without any impact - but TWO ? At least give them a bit of time to settle in.

Ans if lua lua had scored in the first minute as he should its a totally different game and we go on to win to stay top e eryone forgets about a target man. I thought moving Barnes to centre and dobbie behing was an step forward from Saturday. Hopefully cms ans Bruno fit for Saturday ans back to winning

Anyone actually going to argue with his point using anything other than insults? Morons.

Nah, that's no fun. Cocktard

Oh go on then, please identify a list of target men that would be suitable to the way we play, and affordable to our wage structure and passes all other checks that Gus likes to run over potential signings [not that they have been 100% successful]. Or should he just sign someone for the sake of it, so then w.w can moan about them being shit and Gus getting another rubbish player blah blah blah.

Jesus Christ.

Poyet himself has been talking of his need for a target man all year.
A target-man spearheaded our promotion from League 1. It's what you need when you can't play the passing game.

It gets mentioned every time we drop points because it's so blindingly obvious to everyone, and only the most blinkered refuse to see it.

Don't jesus christ me you f***ing twat. I've tried to look past all the emotive wording of your post and look at the point you're trying to make. If you can't read and understand what I've said then then you're obviously not willing to give me the same courtesy, I might as well just stick to abusing you like everyone else.

The target man shite is a myth. The only reason CMS does that job is because he's class. When people bang on about a target man on here they mean a big lump who sits on the ball and wins headers i.e marlk mccammon, lloyd owusu etc. That is not what we need, we just need someone of a similar quality to CMS, and they don't grow on trees.

I doubt any centre back pairings will have it as easy as Birmingham and ipswich these last two games.

Without CMS we look hopelessly lightweight up top. Barnes is no main striker and Dobbie looks more like an unfit midfielder. Oh what a shame we didn't get Murray back. He is EXACTLY what we are missing, same as last season.

I don't really get why we bought Dobbie, he's a deep sitting striker, not a line-leader like CMS. But we already have someone who's very good at that in Barnes, and you don't want 2 of them on the pitch at once. We continue to provide next to no aerial threat so it isn't that.

We had what we need: Glenn Murray.

9 men out there tonight. Barnes completely anonymous and Dobbie making Billy Paynter look mobile. Presumably he was our 16th choice striker in the summer and we ended up with him?

It's embarrassing that we still haven't replaced Murray and infuriating that, just like last season, a few games in and teams have worked out that we've got no plan b. We've made some brilliant signings, but Poyet's failure to get the striker (again!) is going to cost us.

Let's hope CMS gets fit soon and Dobbie can sit his fat arse back on the subs bench!

This.

Poyet's failure to hang on to Glenn Murray or find a suitable replacement is his biggest gaffe to date. Maybe next transfer window he will be able to finally rectify this. We definitely need a target man in the squad.

So frustrating that nearly all the other elements of a great team are in place but teams come here and stop us playing because we have no plan B.

Drives me nuts with how slow our build up is when we have the chance to break against a team 1-0 up who put 10 men behind the ball and yet we take so long getting the ball forward that the opposition have time to get everyone behind the ball again

When we eventually get there crosses into the box are generally eaten up by big defenders or taken by the keeper as we have no presence in the box whatsoever without CMS.

Dobbie needs time to settle in but he doesn't look like a striker with presence to me at the moment. Skilful with a good snap shot but is being knocked off the ball or dispossessed too easily.

Two f***ing frustrating games to watch and a reality check that we have overachieved again so far this season.
