Personally, I think we went up at about the right time. The squad was stronger, the mentality was steelier (as a result of the heartbreaks) and the infrastructure was in place. If we'd have gone up beforehand, I think we'd have been back down shortly afterwards.

Who knows? Personally l would take promotion wherever & whenever it comes our way, regardless of the consequences.

That's the whole reason why we play football isn't it? striving for success.

To be fair to GP we were all really excited when we got CMS, it was a massive statement signing for us, particularly as West Ham and Leicester were both in for him.

I’m not glued to NSC 24/7.

I only clap what I like, so it does mean something. If it had meant nothing to me, I wouldn’t have clapped.

I clapped George Cohen as well. I remember watching the 1966 World Cup Final So it meant something. Plenty of other people in the crowd - the majority, quite possibly, would not have been born when it took place. Does that make it meaningless

I think that having good relationships with past players and staff has a positive impact on current players and staff. Do well here and you’ll be remembered and even clapped around the pitch 10 years later.

Acrimony isn’t a good look generally. I’d hope if Roberto saw Poyet getting applauded, he’d feel he’s at a club worth spending some time at. Over time I suspect Potter would also receive similar, although not for a good while yet I wouldn’t have thought.

Cohen had no connection with the Albion but represented our country and was one of only 11 people from this country to win the World Cup. He was a guest at our centenary dinner and always conducted himself in a respectful and proper manner.

He thoroughly deserved the applause he received at Southampton and throughout the country.

Poyet was brilliant for us. The perfect appointment at the right time, he pulled us up by our bootstraps playing some of the best football I have ever witnessed from a BHA team (at that time). He had charisma, bottle and nouse. One of THE BEST managers we have ever had.

The fact it ended in acrimony is neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned. He played a massive role in the resurgence of this football club, and for that I will always be grateful. If he walked in front of me now, I would not applaud him. I'd sit him down in my favourite armchair, put a large whiskey in one hand, a mince pie in the other, and put the Withdean Years DVD on.

Later on I'd call him a cab, as I slightly suspect he'd wait for me to fall asleep so he could have relations with my wife.

If Poyet hadn't got us out of the relegation scrap in his first few weeks, we would've been in League One going into the Amex. We got promoted very well and even into the playoffs. Very few promoted clubs do that. Ok, we didn't win the playoffs but we didn't with Chris Hughton either. We got up automatically and then two years later sacked Hughton. That's the fate of a lot of managers. It was all about money and the £2 million release clause.

You skipped a season, we finished 10th or so in the first season at the Amex in the Championship, we did occupy play off position for quite a while, after a good start, but we fell away.

I think we all did. He used to frustrate me as he often seemed barely in the game. I guess he didn’t get the service he needed and he was quite young and inexperienced.
