Argus reporting that Gus wants to splash the cash on that elusive goal machine.

ALBION boss Gus Poyet wants the club to spend big in January on the goalscorer he believes could clinch a place in the top six in the Championship.

Poyet is more convinced than ever it could make all the difference to the Seagulls after they failed again to make the most of a glut of chances in Saturday’s 0-0 home draw against Nottingham Forest.

He told The Argus: “It’s getting closer to where it is going to be a big decision for myself, of course with the backing of the club. I would say I am now closer to bringing someone, or a few.

A few??

Why now and not in the summer, when it was obvious to the rest of us that we needed strikers if promotion was an ambition.Gus you f***ed up admit it,don`t keep blaming your team

Would be interesting to know just how much homework has been done, Poyet states in the article he's been working with Bloom on this one.

Not surprised - would you trust Poyet with your money?

There are plenty of strikers around who are about the same level as CMS, Barnes, Dobbie, Hoskins and I suspect we could easily pay £5m for one of them. A proven goal machine (or a younger gun with obvious potential to become one) will cost a lot more than that, or demand premier league wages - and therefore favour a move to a premier league club, you'd imagine.

We talk about "the elusive goalscorer" as if it's a person you could go out and sign tomorrow but I can't think who we'd be likely to get that easily. But no doubt Gus will be slagged off when he fails to pull a rabbit out of the hat in the January window.

Do you think we will spend more than we did on CMS?

Poyet may want to spend big but does Bloom. August 31sts little spree on Dobbie, Lopez etc was a total waste of money and will Bloom want to see the same again ?

125 million spent on ground and training facility, how much spent on the team

If we need to sell in order to finance new signings I'm not keen to see CMS be the fall guy. Although I would like to see Hoskins get a decent run in the side I wonder if he might be the one to get sold on. No point in having a striker who can't remain fit in order to get the goals we need. 18 months after signing him he has hardly played. Harsh but true.

CMS has 10 goals (yes I know he might have got loads more blah, blah) but he also has a good fitness and disciplinary record. So no reason why he shouldn't hit the magic 20 goals (or more) this season. Can't ask much more than that at this level. We 'just' need to find someone else to fit in and bang in another 15-20 goals and we are in business.

I suppose Sparrow and Harley might be on their bikes too which would help Gus's budget. We still have Vincelot and JFC on our books so we don't need to splash the cash in those areas and they maintain the depth we need in the squad if we bring them back from loans.

A LOT of contracts expire in the summer, Approx HALF of the current squad. lots of dead wood going to free up wages.

Out of interest whos is up? Unfortunately I know Harley isnt one of them. Luckily neither are Bridcutt or Buckley who imo should be top of the renewal list.

Bottom of league one to playoff contenders in the championship would suggest YES.

Exactly. We're all frustrated at the lack of goals, but lets have a dose of reality here. We're a completely different club from the one Poyet took over at, and are on the fringes of the promotion race despite the team's glaring shortcomings.

If we can sell the labrador for good money and bring in Austin, it could well be promotion capers for us.

Gus wants to spend big? Jesus Christ, Hope he gets it right this time. This could make or break his career.

he wont spend big. the club does not have the funds to spend big. It will be a loan signing at best.

We have the players already to score goals, they just dont often enough, simple answer, is change formation, go 442, have two wingers scaring the shit out of defenders and 2 strikers, throw enough mud and some will stick.

On what do you base this hypothesis?

you tell me different. We are still losing money if you listen to reports from reliable people on here, if money was around I am sure he would have spent it in August..........
