As a non Albion fan, why is there so much negativity against Gus on here?

Consolidation in the Championship was always the priority, right?

New stadium, great support numbers wise, etc

Are things that bad or is it just keyboard warriors?

Very vocal minority. I think people's expectations went through the roof when we VIOLATED League One playing beautiful football. We'll get there, it's just going to take a bit longer than some hoped.

is a great post in a good thread
it is a bit of a downer when you don't win the games that you thought the team would but we ARE doing Ok and will eventually get there
along with your manager Mr McCarthy who is as another has said a gentleman, although I have never met him you can see from interviews how he is Gus knows what he want and it might take some time but given the chance he will get us there.
in Gus we trust

I got to say these Brighton fans got their head in the clouds.

It is ridiculous and they need to stop making Gus in/out threads after every game, they are still a top 8 side right now and not much more or less. Dumb to think otherwise just based on crowds which would obviously come from a new ground and being starved for decades.

Sense at last. Look at it from an outsiders perspective, some of you.

This.

I am fed up with the vocal idiot minority on this forum - who are surely all just JCLs who have never followed a team properly before (and still don't!).

Fallcious argument to say the least. You must be an old timer who hasn't got use to the fast paced game it is these days. That's using your logic, of course BTW.

I'm on the fence with Poyet, I'll give him till the end of this season until I make up my mind. I'm not expecting premier league football at the moment, what I am expecting though. Is better movement in the transfer market, better scouting of players and stop wasting money on players we don't use.

I'm also fed up with the lack of a plan B, once we're figured, teams can do as they like. We may well play well, and not get the points. But that's down to the strikers, who were signed by Poyet, and then there's questionable formations with certain players.

Why do we never play with 2 wingers, or 2 forwards - when it's so evident that with the talents of Buckley and Lua Lua on the wings, then we have Dobbie, Hoskins, Barnes and CMS. We play 2 of them, but one's always to the left or deeper than their natural position.

To think Poyet's not allowed to be criticised is ridiculous. Whilst the cries for OUT are to some extent, unreasonable. The majority of replies to these were "Poyet got us out of league 1", which is not a valid argument.

Agreed. The club has moved forward at great pace under Gus and Bloom but I think he has suffered from getting us to the Championship faster than expected. Nobody expected us to destroy League One in the way that we did which meant we went up slightly sooner than we thought. Lets be frank, most people expected the first season at the Amex to be housing a promotion charge to the Championship.

As a result, people expect miracles from Gus because he has done it before for us. In reality, even if the season finished now it would still be a good season. The fact we have just 3 points to catch up in the play-offs and a game in hand. Things are actually pretty rosy!

Re the expectation thing from the fans. Which one of these two conversations between Wayne Bridge and Tony Bloom is nearest to the truth?:

1. Hi Wayne Bridge, come and play for the Albion. We have a 5 year plan for the Premier League and we're at the start of Year 2. We've just finished 10th, the next step is to push for the play-offs but we'd probably be happy with 7th. Or:

2. Hi Wayne, you're a top player on £90K a week, come to us. We've just signed Vicente and Bruno from Valencia, Kooshack from Man Utd and have a £3million striker to bang in the goals, we reckon we can give promotion a real go.

I heard it was between Tarricco, Poyet.

Poyet: I dont half fancy that bird from the saturdays...
Tarricco: That's Wayne Bridges's bird...

The rest is your number 2 version apart from £3 Million striker banging in the goals - thats just fanciful!!

Keyboard warriors. Entitled to their opinion and respect it but I don't think many of them sat through the wind, rain and poor footy we had a Withdean.

We have 14000 newbee fans that should be talking it up but a minority that want to talk it down.

It's just the knee-jerk reactions of a fickle minority....with the emphasis on jerk I suppose.

GP is one of the most promising managers out there and he has to learn his craft in front of thousands of people - most who are tolerant and understand that it takes time to turn Brighton and Hove Albion into a fully fledged Premiership team. He makes mistakes just like the rest of us. Only, his are in full view and up for immediate criticism.
We're battling for a place alongside teams like Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea, Everton, Spurs etc and It takes time to build a squad capable of sustaining Premiership status. More patience is required in my opinion. I'm well happy with a top ten Championship finish FWIW

agreed - but apparently it doesnt count and we should not be looking at where we came from... what a load of old shite.

The issue with keyboard warriors and JCL's and or both ( nothing against them at all) but they dont have perspective of hereford, gillingham and withdean. Not a critisism just a fact.

Spot on, all of this. Good to see there are still some on here with a brain.

Unrealistic expectations, because Southampton and Norwich before them had stormed straight in the Prem, that we should do the same although we are doing better than other recently promoted teams from League 1.
Our playing budget is approx 16th in the division but because we have spent over a million on a couple of players, and games are sold out, then fans expect us to be winning every game when this division is so tight that games can hinge on a wicked deflection or just a moment's lack of concentration.

We've had too many draws where they should have been wins so therefore not good for a very vocal set of fans on here. I don't hear the same amount of moans and groans from colleagues and fans around me, or travelling fans when at away grounds. Things could be better and we all hope that they will be but things could also be worse. There is a lack of patience with the players and playing staff from some on here.

Fantastic post. Should be stickied..
